अथ चेतत्त्वमिमं धर्म्यं संग्रामं न करिष्यसि | तत: स्वधर्मं कीर्तिं च हित्वा पापमवाप्स्यसि || 33|| If, however, you refuse to fight this righteous war, abandoning your social duty and reputation, you will certainly incur sin. This shloka is from Bhagwad Gita,Chapter 2,Verse 33. Bottom line:If a warrior chooses to become non-violent on the battlefield, it will be dereliction of duty, and hence, classified as a sinful act. Hence, Shree Krishna states that if Arjun abandons his duty, considering it to be repugnant and troublesome, he will be committing a sin. Hence,we should follow the ethical path because it is our duty to do so.Despite trials and tribulations of life, one should perform his duty and adhere to the ethical path. This shloka can be used in gs 4 questions related to duty ethics, work culture, case studies where one has to face problems because of doing the 'right' thing. This can also be used in the essay paper in appropriate context. शिक्षा वो शेरनी का दूध हैं, जो जितना पियेगा वो उतना दहाड़ेगा । Education is the milk of the tigress. Once you have drunk it, you cannot but roar. These lines were said by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Bottom line: Education is a source of power and a potent tool to bring social revolution. The development of the marginalized sections can only be ensured with the help of education. When marginalized sections are aware of their rights, then it shall generate a bottom-up force. The biggest gift of education is that it gives self-confidence,and it is the first stage of development.Education is a liberating force and a weapon to eradicate social slavery. This quotation is very handy when you want to substantiate education as an agency of empowerment. Use this in gs 1 questions on society,gs 2 questions on education, development and gs 4 questions on grass-root democracy. This can be used in essay paper too. We after careful consideration have decided that our prime focus shall be on shlokas, dohas. We also promise that around 80 percent of the contents posted will be shlokas and dohas.Since, many of the subscribers wanted us to include quotations too,so we have come up with it.Also, this will diversify your knowledge base and you don't have to run pillar-to-post to gather rich content. This step shouldn't be perceived as a Sanskrit versus English debate.A good lesson,be it in any language,by any author or in any book,it should be embraced. Please share the feedback with us. नास्ति मातृसमो गुरु। There is no mentor, spiritual teacher similar to a mother. This sukti is from the Mahabharata,Anushashan Parva. It was said by Bhishm Pitamaha. Bottom line:Parents are said to be the first teacher's of a child. They have a deep impact on the child's mental and spiritual development.Proper nurturing, socialisation will make a child an ethical person.Respect for elders, compassion for living beings, honesty, empathy, innovative thinking, critical thinking and all other desired values can be imbibed in a child at the tender age. So,education of parents is of utmost importance. The neglect of female education in particular by the larger society is detrimental to the overall welfare of the child, the family, the society and the nation. This sukti is easy to memorize and can be used in gs 4 questions of socialisation, child development, women empowerment and similar topics in essay. दु:खमित्येव यत्कर्म कायक्लेशभयात्यजेत् | स कृत्वा राजसं त्यागं नैव त्यागफलं लभेत् || 8|| To give up prescribed duties because they are troublesome or cause bodily discomfort is renunciation in the mode of passion. Such renunciation is never beneficial or elevating. This shloka is from Bhagwad Gita,Chapter 18,Verse 8. Bottom line: One should always perform his/her duties, whatever be the circumstances. The situation can be extremely challenging but giving up duties on the pretext of the spiritualistic aspirations is cowardly.Arjun finds his duty unpleasant and bothersome and, as a result, wishes to run away from the battlefield. Shree Krishna calls this ignorance and weakness. He encourages Arjun to continue doing his duty, even though it may be unpleasant, while simultaneously bringing about an internal transformation within him. For this purpose, he enlightens Arjun with spiritual knowledge and helps him develop the eyes of wisdom. Having heard the Bhagavad Gita, Arjun does not change his profession, but changes the consciousness he brings to bear upon his activities. Previously, the motive behind his work was to secure the kingdom of Hastinapur for his comfort and glory. Later, he continues to do his work, but as an act of devotion to God. This shloka doesn't fall directly under any of the topics of the syllabus. However, this shloka can be used in gs 4 questions of spirituality and essay on similar topics. We understand that prelims is knocking on the door and the examination is highly competitive. You must be high on your nerves.Sometimes, you may feel alone in this long, arduous journey, you may at times be also engulfed by fears, uncertainty may weigh heavily on your mind. But,my dear friends just remember you are preparing not just for clearing the examination. It is because acting towards your goal is your duty and you cannot wash away your hands with that. You are not the cause of the fruits of your action but you are the cause of the action. So,calm yourself and act accordingly.God is on your side! Long live India, long live Indians and long live 'Dev Bhasha'.

उरग तुरंग नारी नृपति, नीच जाति हथियार। रहिमन इन्हें संभालिए, पलटत लगै न बार।। Angry snake, tortured horse, revengeful women(person),angry king and a person of low ethical standards and a sharp-edged weapon, Rahim advises to be cautious (from them),they can strike you back anytime. This doha is of Saint Rahim Das. Bottom line: We should be cautious from people who have low moral standards. If we have done the 'right' thing and this has led to their harm, then such a person will always look for opportunity to harm us.We should be prepared to face challenges if we want to teach the powerful but evil person a lesson. This shloka is generic in nature. It can be used at appropriate places in gs 4,case studies like dealing with a corrupt politician and she/he is asking you to do illegal, immoral acts.It can also be used in philosophical essays. लालनाद् बहवो दोषास्ताडनाद् बहवो गुणाः। तस्मात्पुत्रं च शिष्यं च ताडयेन्न तु लालयेत् ॥ Excessive pampering leads to many defects and too much strictness leads to development of qualities. So pupil and son need strictness not pampering. This shloka is of Chanakya. Bottom line:At the tender age,a child is like a potter's clay.It largely depends on the agents of socialisation, how to shape them. After the clay has taken its shape(after secondary socialisation) not much can be done. There has to be the right balance between pampering and strictness in dealing with children. At present, the 'great Indian middle class' thinks that 'we toil for our children,so that we can fulfil even their silliest desires'.'Helicopter-parenting'(tendency to provide everything) is spoiling the kids. One should exercise reason in judging if their child's demand is legitimate and according to their means.Too much of pampering makes them unprepared to handle the future difficulties, failures in life.Children should have the ability and capability to hear 'no' and should have an attitude of being content in whatever they have.Leaving the job of socialisation and parenting to technological gadgets(i-pad parenting) is not helpful.Parents should spend time with their children.Discipline needs to be a part and parcel of their life. The importance of discipline should be ingrained in the child's subconscious. This can be used in gs 4 questions of agents of socialisation, discipline and similar topics in essay. If you like our content, recommend our channel,so that others too reap the benefits. Dear subscribers, Wish you all a very Happy 75th Independence Day.We have come a long way since our independence. We were fortunate enough to have the privilege of being born in an independent nation,a nation which eventually became "self-sufficient" from "ship-to-mouth" existence. With increased life expectancy, education, drastically reduced poverty rates, opportunities to excel,to count a few,the quality of lives of Indians have improved by leaps and bounds. But still we need to go a long way.To make this transformative shift, the youth ,which is the "steel-frame" of India will have to rise to the occasion.Lines of Rabindranath Nath Tagore which gives us goosebumps are worth repeating: Freedom from fear is the freedom I claim for you my motherland! Freedom from the burden of the ages, bending your head, breaking your back, blinding your eyes to the beckoning call of the future; Freedom from the shackles of slumber wherewith you fasten yourself in night's stillness, mistrusting the star that speaks of truth's adventurous paths; freedom from the anarchy of destiny whole sails are weakly yielded to the blind uncertain winds, and the helm to a hand ever rigid and cold as death. Freedom from the insult of dwelling in a puppet's world, where movements are started through brainless wires, repeated through mindless habits, where figures wait with patience and obedience for the master of show, to be stirred into a mimicry of life. Though the above poem is in English and this channel focuses on Sanskrit shlokas and Hindi dohas,it shouldn't be perceived by anyone as 'English versus Hindi debate'.If a deep, philosophical message is in any language,by any author,in any book and has the potential to make us learn something good,we should embrace it. Keep revising our previous content. Jai Hind. Long live India, long live Indians and long live 'Dev Bhasha'.

जो तैं मारण मुक्कियाँ, उनां ना मारो घुम्म। अपनड़े घर जाईए, पैर तिनां दे चुम्म॥3॥ If somebody punches you, don't hit them back. Kiss their feet and take the path towards your home. This doha is of great Sufi Saint Hazrat Khwaja Fariduddin Ganj-e-Shankar also popularly known as Baba Farid. Bottom Line:We should have a forgiving attitude even towards the person who have wronged us.Seeking revenge destroys our internal peace and happiness.Human beings should have purity of thoughts and it is this quality which differentiates a good and an evil person. If we wish well even for the person who don't like us or don't want us to progress then there are chances that person will like us eventually too.We shouldn't forgive anyone because we are weak or lack courage.Forgiving those who wish evil for us ,despite having the strength and courage to inflict damage on them is the mantra of life. This can be used in gs 4 questions of forgiveness, goodness of human nature, shunning revengeful attitude and similar topics in the essay paper.
