Shaykh al-Albānī Clarifying the Intent of Ibn Taymiyyah Regarding the Nature of the Excellence of the Arabs in Their Genus. The Shaykh (رحمه الله), commenting on the speech of Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله), explains that the Arabs were to the Romans and Persians, in terms of development and advancement, what the Blacks have been to the Europeans, but Allah chose them, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and his Companions for their superiority in their traits and qualities, on account of which they carried Islam, and thus have a virtue and excellence regarding that. As for religious excellence, in term of piety and righteousness, then no one has any excellence over anyone else on grounds of his race. A beneficial discussion and good clarification in the matter. Regarding the Nature of the Excellence of the Arabs and the Saying of the Shuʿūbiyyah Shaykh Ibn Bāz (رحمه الله) said: "Hence, al-Ṣiddīq, ʿUmar, ʿUthmān, ʿAlī and the rest of the ten (promised Paradise), and others from the Anṣār and Muḥājirīn, they have great excellence, and similarly, those who followed them upon goodness in carrying knowledge, and making jihād in Allāh’s path, until they spread Allāh’s religion and taught it to the people, regardless of whether they are Arabs or non-Arabs. They have a great right upon the later Muslims in supplicating for them, asking for Allāḥ’s pleasure for them, thanking them for what they did, and loving them for that." Ibn Taymiyyah explains the subject matter very clearly, through extensive citation of the Qurʾān and separates truth from falsehood, until all confusion is lifted. It also contains a defence of Shaykh al-Islām Muḥammad bin ʿAbd al-Wahhāb (رحمه الله) from the accusation that he invented a ‘new construction’ of shirk from the Qurʾān, as has been claimed by the misguided innovators.
