It was really peaceful there, and we rode horses one of the days. When I returned to the office, there was a lot of work to do, but it was a great time.

It's been crazy in Dallas recently. We had two thunderstorms in two weeks and lost electricity for a few days each time. We still went to the office, but there was no air conditioning, so we couldn't work well. At home, this caused us to spend a lot of money for two days, because we ate at a lot of restaurants. Even though it was annoying, it was also a bit of an adventure for the kids. They loved reading books by candlelight and checking out different plants in the yard during the day. I don't even think they missed the iPhones and iPads.

We've had an amazing summer in Seattle. Before this summer, we hadn't ever been to the Pacific Northwest. The people there are so laid back and friendly. I think our favorite part was hiking in the mountains. We actually got a little lost, but we had a blast figuring out how to get back to our car. Of course, we had GPS, so we easily could've opened our phones and used them to get back, but it was great to shut off the technology and figure it out ourselves. We're not looking forward to getting back to real life, but that's how the cookie crumbles, right? We all have to make a living to afford these great adventures. Now, back to spreadsheets and negotiating!

It's ridiculously easy to live in Texas because you don't have to struggle to find reasonably-priced real estate, a high-quality school for the kids, and it's just not a costly city in general. The only downside for us would be the public transport, or, should I say, lack of. The homes are half the prices of Seattle and twice as big. Score! In regards to the schools, we could've put the kids in a private school, but in the suburbs, there really isn't any need. The public schools out there are superb. Even though we consider ourselves city people, it's not too bad living in the 'burbs. We usually hit up about one new restaurant every couple of months, and that appeases our appetites for dining out. We still budget and plan for the future, but we get to splurge more than if we were living on one of the coasts where the cost of living is simply outrageous.
