Health worker, are you prepared? The strongest El Niño on record is going to harm the health of millions with hunger and disasters, and United Nations relief chief Tom Fletcher called it a “wrecking ball” on 21 October 2026. Up to 50 million people could face more hunger from extreme heat, droughts, and floods. The World Meteorological Organization and OCHA warned that Pacific sea temperatures may rise 3.8 degrees above average between November 2026 and January 2027. This will bring extreme weather to Latin America, East and Southern Africa, Asia, and the Pacific. Somalia, Ethiopia, and Kenya need supplies in place before heavy rains arrive. Southern Africa needs seeds and support for livestock before the planting season. Central America needs help to protect livelihoods from drought. The UN released over 50 million U.S. dollars from the Central Emergency Response Fund for 11 countries on the front line, including Chad, Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan, and El Salvador. Health workers already see more sickness from floods, heat, and failed crops. The African Development Bank estimates costs of 10 to 20 billion dollars for African countries and a drop in GDP of 1 to 2 percent. The Geneva Learning Foundation’s 7-30 Climate Health Emergency Framework sorts a climate emergency into two numbers you can hold in your head under pressure, seven days to prepare and thirty days to recover. This course connects you with health workers from all over the world, each building their own local 7-30 plan for the next shock. 7-30 Climate Health Emergency Framework is a free framework that gives a shape to what you already do as a health worker facing climate shocks, so you can ask for support with evidence behind you. Download the framework and get certified here: https://www.learning.foundation/2026/08/03/7-30-climate-health-emergency-framework/ 7-30 sorts a climate emergency into two numbers you can hold in your head under pressure, seven days to prepare and thirty days to recover. A free Level 1 certification course helps you learn to use it in the community you serve. Work with a colleague to build your local plan and earn your certificate to submit to your employer or professional body.

Dr Marina Romanello, who leads the Lancet Countdown, is coming to Teach to Reach to listen to health workers and present her team’s latest findings. Request your invitation: https://www.learning.foundation/2026/10/22/teach-to-reach-19-get-the-lancets-latest-evidence-of-how-climate-change-is-harming-the-health-of-your-community/ Her team spent a decade tracking what climate change does to health in every country. This year’s report draws on 146 authors and 71 organisations worldwide. A public health professional in Plateau State, Nigeria saw it happen at his health centre. Heavy rain flooded nearby villages. His centre logged over 500 cholera and diarrhoea cases in a week. Only afterward did he connect it to climate change. Dr Romanello has said the numbers need that kind of ground truth. At Teach to Reach, health workers speak first. Then she shares what the data shows. Then everyone connects the dots together. This happens days before COP31, while the findings are still new. Bring your own answer: what changed in the weather this year, and what did it cost your community?

This one researches the emergency and drafts the analysis from verified evidence. It marks every claim as verified, single-source, or unverified. You should not have to pay for certification in Rapid Gender Analysis (RGA). Join TGLF’s free Rapid Gender Analysis (RGA) certificate peer learning programme: https://www.learning.foundation/gender-in-emergencies RGA can help gather “good enough” information in the first days of a humanitarian crisis. It’s not about writing a report. It starts by building bonds of trust and solidarity with women-led organisations in affected communities. Done right, it provides actionable recommendations to humanitarian responders who may be otherwise blind to gender. Your peers come from more than 100 countries. In TGLF’s programme, practitioners have already improved the RGA method itself. Most participants are women and men who live and work in communities facing multiple crises, at the same time. Women and men from the Global North stand to learn from them, and are therefore especially encouraged to join the programme. Who decides what counts as valid gender analysis? Decolonial feminist scholars warn that global toolkits can sideline the knowledge of local partners. Participants in our programme have developed intersectional, decolonial RGA, that fits where they are A person is never just one thing. Gender combines with everything else that a person can be to create different risks. In our programme, you start with a real story from your own life. Your experience is the primary text. You share it with peers across countries and receive their feedback. You finish with practical actions that target the root causes of gender inequity.

AMD is buying World Labs for about 8.2 billion dollars, and a ministry of health should read that deal differently from Wall Street. You cannot download a data centre. The Geneva Learning Foundation’s Reda Sadki spoke on a panel convened by the AI for Developing Countries Forum. His argument: hardware sovereignty is out of reach for most developing countries. Model sovereignty is still within reach. What a government can own is its knowledge, and the people who can check what AI produces. In Nigeria, in partnership with UNICEF and NPHCDA, the national primary health care agency, a six-week peer learning programme connected 4,300 peers across 308 local government areas. In July, TGLF’s AI co-worker refused to release two finished reports because a check found seventeen health worker quotations it could not match to the raw data. Three had been altered by the drafting model. The drafting took minutes. The value was in the check. Can you choose, can you leave, can you judge? Learn three tests you can use for any AI decision.

On a livestream on 6 August 2026, invited to say what she had learned, she picked the shortest course on her list and called it something else entirely. "Actually, this was a course which was not a course. It was a deep down pain inside me for which I have never spoken to anyone before." Then she said it: the consequences of early surgical menopause, faced at 36, physically, mentally, socially — carried silently through a career inside a health system. She was one of more than 1,100 health workers, most under 40, most at the front line, who had just completed the first global peer learning course on menopause, built with TGLF partner Menoglobal. Most were writing about a menopause they had not yet lived — watching it instead in mothers, grandmothers, aunts, patients, and colleagues. A

He had just finished a peer learning course on malaria alongside doctors, district medical officers, and national advisers, reviewed anonymously so no one knew whose analysis they were reading. “Now I can speak in public confidently,” he said. “I see myself as a mentor now.” At Teach to Reach 16, The Geneva Learning Foundation released a leadership guide built from more than 1,300 health workers who answered an open call in 2023, then reviewed by 390 health leaders, most of them ministry staff working in districts and facilities. No international consultants, global health agencies, or donors were in that room. It names nine domains of what health workers alread

That takes three minutes. Nine other people follow with something equally specific. The Geneva Learning Foundation runs Teach to Reach, a peer learning platform for people who work for health. A women's group solidarity fund pays for her stay. No ministry designed this arrangement. No donor financed it. At Teach to Reach 16, The Geneva Learning Foundation presented its 7-30 Climate-Health Emergency Framework, built from three years of accounts from health workers across more than nineteen countries. The framework's proposal is simple: confirm local readiness within seven days of a seasonal or forecast trigger, and restore or adapt essential services within thirty days of onset. Health workers described what this looks like on the ground. In Niger, a malaria campaign delivered its supplies by p
