#BiharCurrentAffairs Bihar starts preparations for meetings of G20 'engagement groups' The Bihar government has started preparations for the meetings of the G20 'engagement groups', scheduled to be held in the state in March next year. Eight ASI-protected monuments in Bihar are among the 100 monuments selected across India for illumination with G20 logo and colours for seven days since India assumed the presidency of the international grouping. #BiharCurrentAffairs Patna to get surveillance centre for communicable diseases As a post-Covid initiative, the Centre had selected Patna among 20 cities in India to set up a metropolitan surveillance centre for communicable diseases, initially for five years. Rajaghat in Patna has been selected among 20 locations in India to host Bihar’s lone metropolitan surveillance centre for communicable diseases. The metropolitan disease surveillance centre, proposed and supported by the Centre, will conduct research and forecast epidemic prone diseases like dengue, chikungunya, scrub typhus, leptospirosis and Zika virus before its outbreak. The Centre will extend financial support for five years after which the established activities shall continue under the state support. पटना को संचारी रोगों के लिए निगरानी केंद्र मिलेगा कोविड के बाद की पहल के रूप में, शुरुआत में पांच साल के लिए केंद्र ने संचारी रोगों के लिए एक महानगरीय निगरानी केंद्र स्थापित करने के लिए भारत के 20 शहरों में से पटना को चुना था। संचारी रोगों के लिए बिहार के एकमात्र महानगरीय निगरानी केंद्र की मेजबानी के लिए पटना के राजघाट को भारत के 20 स्थानों में से चुना गया है। केंद्र द्वारा प्रस्तावित और समर्थित महानगरीय रोग निगरानी केंद्र, डेंगू, चिकनगुनिया, स्क्रब टाइफस, लेप्टोस्पायरोसिस और जीका वायरस जैसे महामारी प्रवण रोगों के प्रकोप से पहले अनुसंधान और पूर्वानुमान करेगा। केंद्र पांच साल के लिए वित्तीय सहायता प्रदान करेगा जिसके बाद राज्य के समर्थन के तहत स्थापित गतिविधियां जारी रहेंगी।

#BiharCurrentAffairs Bihar’s Maternal Mortality Rate Improves The state has registered a 12-point drop, from 130 to 118 per lakh live births in maternal mortality ratio (MMR) between 2017-19 and 2018-20, respectively, according to a special health ministry bulletin as part of the Sample Registration System (SRS) 2018-20, released on Tuesday. The state’s MMR is, however, higher than the national average of 97 per lakh live births. Despite the improvement, Bihar’s state ranking slid from 14 in 2017-19 to 15 in 2018-20 on the MMR national index. Interventions Bihar has taken to improve its MMR Score: - on-job training of labour room staff - posting of specialist doctors at level 3 hospitals or the first referral units (FRUs) - functionalising FRUs - vigorously pursuing the anaemia mukta Bharat initiative and quality improvement initiatives such as LaQshya - strengthening supply chain management by ensuring availability of drugs in the essential drugs list - improving ambulance service through public-private partnership - AMANAT program in partnership with CARE India The CARE India has been working closely with the state government to improve the skill of nurses and auxiliary nursing midwives (ANMs), and is implementing a nurse mentoring program called AMANAT, which aims to build the capacity of nurses and ANMs to manage childbirth complications and provide basic emergency obstetric and newborn care and other reproductive health services including family planning. #BiharCurrentAffairs 92% Schools in Bihar Lack Internet Access About 66 per cent of schools in India lack access to the internet, with states such as Bihar and Mizoram having 92 and 90 per cent schools, respectively, in this category as per a Unified District Information System for Education plus (UDISE+) report for 2021–22. #BiharCurrentAffairs Bihar Liquor Law Rehab Programme The Bihar Cabinet has approved a proposal for ₹1 lakh financial assistance for the members of poor families involved in the trade of liquor or toddy to ensure a thorough implementation of the prohibition law. The assistance was earlier meant for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes traditionally associated with the profession and was introduced when the prohibition came into force in 2016. The assistance scheme was earlier limited to villages, it would now be implemented in urban areas as well and all cover classes and communities. The Cabinet also approved a proposal to curtail the duration for auctioning movable and immovable properties confiscated under the prohibition law from 210 to 90 days. बिहार शराब कानून पुनर्वास कार्यक्रम बिहार मंत्रिमंडल ने शराब या ताड़ी के व्यापार में शामिल गरीब परिवारों के सदस्यों के लिए शराबबंदी कानून का पूरी तरह से कार्यान्वयन सुनिश्चित करने के लिए 1 लाख रुपये की वित्तीय सहायता के प्रस्ताव को मंजूरी दे दी है। यह सहायता पहले पारंपरिक रूप से पेशे से जुड़े अनुसूचित जाति और अनुसूचित जनजातियों के लिए थी और 2016 में निषेधाज्ञा लागू होने पर शुरू की गई थी। सहायता योजना पहले गांवों तक ही सीमित थी, अब इसे शहरी क्षेत्रों में भी लागू किया जाएगा और सभी वर्गों और समुदायों को कवर किया जाएगा। कैबिनेट ने शराबबंदी कानून के तहत जब्त की गई चल और अचल संपत्तियों की नीलामी की अवधि को 210 से घटाकर 90 दिन करने के प्रस्ताव को भी मंजूरी दे दी है।

Causes behind the rise in AQI as per Bihar State Pollution Control Board: Geography: The Indo-Gangetic Plain sites have high pollution because the Himalayas form a natural barrier to cleaner air in northern India. Cold air from the Himalayas prevents the warmer air dispersing north into Tibet.
