❗️Writing Task 2
“Some people feel that the private lives of celebrities should not be openly shared by the media.”
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Media coverage for celebrity life has lately focused more on celebrities’ personal rather than professional lives. Hence, some opine that media should not openly discuss the private matters of celebrities. Personally, I believe that there are both pros and cons of media coverage of celebrity life, and thus it should depend on what kind of information they are putting out.
On the one hand, over-focusing on personal matters of famous people can end up in a failure in their popularity. Some controversial moments or sound-bites may lead to the creation of conflict within their family and work structures. A notable example of such an incidence is a paparazzi photo of Gerard Pique (world-famous football player) with a different woman, resulted in the separation with his spouse, a renowned singer Shakira. As a consequence, both had to endure damage to their personal image and long-term career goals. Besides, every celebrity ought to have their privacy and personal inviolability from media obligation, and be able to live as a normal citizen of society.
Nevertheless, it is also true that exposure to a certain type of celebrity content can actually benefit other people. In other words, it can act as a source of motivation, as most famous people share with their success story, talk about health and wealth, and life in general. Although not all of such information can be beneficial, the documentary film of Ronaldo’s escape from early poverty trap to become the most well-known footballer in the world is indubitably worth watching from a spectator standpoint. Similarly, an article about how a superstar boxing champion, Tyson Fury, could overcome depression and mental anxiety through writing a book. Sharing such cases on social media gives hope, encouragement and positivity to the people who watch them.
In conclusion, despite the potential dangers to the reputation and family status of celebrities involving the media coverage of their personal lives, I believe that there are certain types of publications shared by media that the world needs to see. Hence, media outlets should strike a balance when it comes to their intrusion with celebrity life.
