As in many countries on every continent, a black market involving a large number of weapons has existed in Ukraine for years. However, since Russia’s February 2022 invasion and resulting war of attrition, the various weapons sent to Ukraine have fuelled significant growth in the black market. Accordingly, the range of illicit weapons and ammunition has also greatly expanded. It is not just Ukraine as weapons from Russian forces have been seized as well.

🇺🇦🇰🇪🇿🇦 Zelensky held talks with Kenyan and South African presidents about plans about "grain hub" for East Africa and "revival of grain deal" to "help tackle food insecurity"
Ukraine has said it will set up "grain hubs" in Kenya and other parts of Africa to "tackle food insecurity."
President Volodymyr Zelensky's office announced the plan, without giving details, after he met his Kenyan and South African counterparts, William Ruto and Cyril Ramaphosa respectively, in New York.
Ruto said that the Ukrainian president had committed to establishing a "grain hub" in Kenya's coastal city of Mombasa to help address food shortages in East Africa.
Ramaphosa said that he and the Ukrainian president had discussed "the way forward on the peace initiative". They also talked about the "revival of the grain deal."

🇪🇹 Ethiopia "thwarts attack by 450 al-Shabaab militants"
Ethiopia has dismissed a statement by al-Shabaab in which the Islamist militant group said it attacked an Ethiopian convoy in Somalia killing 167 soldiers.
The Ethiopian military issued a statement saying it had completely thwarted an attempted attack on Sunday by 450 al-Shabab militants.
Feyisa Ayele, the commander of Ethiopia's contingent in Somalia, said al-Shabab had also left three explosive-laden vehicles on a road, which his troops had destroyed. He did not mention any Ethiopian casualties in his statement.
Residents told the Reuters news agency the clashes took place near the southern-western town of Rab Dhure, around 20km from the Ethiopian border.
🇧🇫🇳🇪 Burkina Faso assembly voted to send troops to Niger
Burkina Faso’s Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT) has unanimously voted to send troops to neighbouring Niger, where the military seized power on 26 July.
Defence Minister Colonel Major Kassoum Coulibaly said the troops will have a three-month renewable stay in Niger, “fighting terrorism and contributing to stabilising Sahel states”.
Burkina Faso’s interim cabinet on 30 August approved the deployment of troops to Niger.
🇪🇹 Civilians killed in Ethiopia drone strikes
Dozens of civilians were killed in drone strikes in Ethiopian towns in the Amhara region on Sunday, residents have told.
People said two separate drone attacks occurred in the area. In one of these attacks, the resident alleged that "at least 30 people were killed".
Another residents who visited the areas affected by the drone attacks said that the strikes happened far from active conflict zones and in areas with no apparent militant activity at the time. They said the second drone attack took place in a forest "so there were no casualties".
Another drone strike in Dembecha town is said to have resulted in the deaths of about 18 people.
Syria: The National Defence Force (NDF) militias led by Abd al-Qadir Hamou declared a mutiny against the government early Wednesday, igniting violent fighting with the Syrian army in Hasakah city's security compound.
