AMPL is the first mover in the rebase world. The market cap of a crypto is defined: Quantity * Price. When you buy bitcoin you hope that the price will increase because the quantity is fixed and cannot fluctuate. Ampleforth works reverse. The price is fixed (note: inflation adjusted) over time, but the quantity fluctuates. You hope for a higher quantity and thus a higher market cap. But the extra benefit of AMPL is that it has stable unit of account over time, like a dollar. You cannot do a debt obligation in bitcoin because the bitcoin price can double or half, but you can do a debt obligation in AMPL because you know that the price will come down over time by distributing more tokens across all wallets, proportionally to the amount of the ampleforth network they own. The reverse is also true, when the price is lower than the inflation adjusted 2019 USD base, tokens are removed from all wallets to increase the price. However your share of the network cant be diluted away. The latter implies that AMPL is speculative like bitcoin and is NOT a stablecoin. AMPL is a store of value, but designed to function better than bitcoin in smart contracts.
