Online education and training is becoming increasingly popular in the business world. Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?
Distance learning has lately been growing in popularity in the world of business, with more and more people in the industry choosing online training over traditional one. This development is both advantageous and disadvantageous in equal measure.
To start, the popularity of online learning in business can be seen as a change for the better. The most immediate upside is clearly more efficiency enabled by an extensive use of technology. When taking an online course, trainees are often expected to use online tools such as spreadsheets and business-related software applications, which allows for faster acquisition and more productivity. Besides, as opposed to receiving training in person, there is little cost associated with online means of learning. This is because one generally spends no time and money on commuting. In this sense, online learning proves itself convenient not only in the business world, but also many other dimensions of life.
On the other hand, online education is not without its downsides, and it is even more so in the corporate world. The main negative aspect of distance learning can be its efficacy. Since this form of training often involves little-to-no hands-on experience, trainees are left with small tangible results. As a result, most people subscribed to online learning tend to fail when they are confronted with challenges in the real world. In addition, staying grounded can prove challenging to participants who would rather learn through conventional means; instances of people quitting online occupational programs are in the majority.
In conclusion, while the chief benefits of online training in the business world are an efficiency boost in learning and convenience, lack of first-hand experience and discipline are some possible drawbacks.
