The simple takeaway The pain is spreading, not fading. Between March and October 2026, more stocks moved into the loss zone. This is what people call a “time correction”: prices may not be crashing sharply, but holding stocks for 2 years has given many investors nothing. Today is about as bad as Sep 2019, but not yet as bad as Mar 2020. At 73%, we are close to the 2019 level (76%) and still below the 2020 extreme (88.5%). The market is bigger now. It has 4,156 stocks compared with about 2,300 then, mainly because of the many IPOs since 2021. Many of those new listings came at high prices and are now below their listing levels, which adds to the red. Winners still exist, but they are fewer. About 1 in 10 stocks is still compounding above 30% a year. In 2020 it was 1 in 30.
