Ten Hag: "In the pre-season I remember we had a lot of discussions in this room, but you need the right player, and definitely we have the right player. I am really happy for #mufc and for this team to have him. Because he is raising the limits from Manchester United."

Ten Hag on Casemiro: "I am happy they [Real Madrid] did it [sold him to #mufc]. But you also see him involved at the World Cup, he is a magnificent player. My analysis was before the start of the season we needed a [number] six, and he is fulfilling that six position."

🗣️ Erik ten Hag: "We need competition in the squad. He [Wan-Bissaka] has to play games in the team and then he can develop, then he can grow."

🗣️ Erik ten Hag: "In first half of season he [Wan-Bissaka] was either injured or ill so you don’t have a role in squad. The break was good for him. Now he has played two games and is doing really well. We needed the competition in the squad."

🗣️ Erik ten Hag: "In the offensive department, you need players coming from the bench to have an impact on the game, whether it is you need a goal or when you are leading and you can go for the counter-attacks or keep the win on your side."

🗣️ Erik ten Hag: "We need impact from the bench. I am happy once again a player was coming from the bench; Fred is scoring a goal and I think all the subs who came in tonight did really well."

🗣️ Erik ten Hag: "You need players, you need numbers to cover, so we need good players, not only numbers, you need quality players to cover that. You need also competition [so] that you can make technical choices, so we are looking for the right player for our squad."

🗣️ Erik ten Hag: "We have a squad, we have players who are matching our criteria but with all the games that are coming, it is a tough competition. We want to be also playing in all of the competitions by winning in games and cups as well."

David Ornstein: "You will need to watch this space on a takeover because it could be coming very soon and it will be a seismic moment in the history of #mufc." [@NBCSportsSoccer]

Ten Hag: "I had a talk with him [Varane] yesterday, Raphaël takes responsibility and that is why he is so successful, winning so many trophies and he is so important to the squad. He said 'I am ready, play me'."

Ten Hag: "Yesterday we took the decision and waited overnight for recoveries. Harry [Maguire] is much better but other two are not available."

Ten Hag: "We had illnesses during the week. Maguire, Lindelöf, McTominay. Harry recovered but not fit to start. We have to be a little bit creative."

#mufc XI vs Nottingham Forest: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Shaw, Malacia, Casemiro, Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, Antony, Rashford, Martial

Ten Hag: "While Rapha Varane was disappointed to be on the losing side in the [World Cup] final, he too can be proud of an outstanding tournament for him and France." [mu]

Ten Hag: "Winning the World Cup is a fantastic achievement for any player, and we are all proud of Licha for adding his name to the list of those who have done it as #mufc players." [mu]

Ten Hag: "If we show high standards of quality and discipline, live them every day as a group and hold each other accountable to those levels, then we will keep getting better." [mu]

Ten Hag: "However, we have higher ambitions for where we want to get to, and that means continuing to improve." [mu]

Ten Hag: "We have only played 14 games so far in the league season, so there is a long way to go yet. But based on where we were at the start, where we are now, and what we have done in-between, I feel like fifth is the right position for us at this stage of the season." [mu]

Anthony Martial: "Manchester United should be optimistic for rest of the season" "We’ve a very good team of players, with a great dynamic about us, a lot of victories already under our belt, we now just have to keep on in those winning ways we have shown in these recent matches"

"United are expected to entertain talks over Brandon Williams, who returned from injury in those games against Cadiz and Real Betis. Williams went on loan to Premier League strugglers Norwich City last season and it may be that a permanent transfer now makes most sense, with Ten Hag’s view of the situation being influential."
