When power has no limits
Power without accountability can quickly become oppression. And when people see themselves as self-sufficient, they can begin to believe they answer to no one. We see this with the likes of Donald Trump and others.
The Qur’ān points to a different foundation: recognising that we are all accountable to an authority above us. Before Allah, power does not make one person greater than another!

🎙️ NEW ONGUARD EPISODE
Why are so many Muslim men suffering in silence?
Dr Hamza Andreas Tzortzis sits down with Ahmed Tomal of Tawfiq Therapy for an honest conversation about anxiety, depression, loneliness, addiction, suicidal thoughts and why men often struggle to ask for help.
They also explore what therapy can offer Muslims—and where modern therapeutic culture can conflict with an Islamic understanding of masculinity, family and emotional wellbeing.

Recovery is often shaped by small, consistent actions repeated over time.
Serving others, maintaining daily structure, prioritising healthy sleep, and staying physically active are not quick fixes, but they are powerful foundations. Combined with sincere reliance on Allah and professional support when needed, these steps can help make healing possible.

Study other ideas without losing your tradition
Muslims should not be afraid to engage with other philosophies, worldviews, or intellectual traditions. But studying them should deepen our understanding, not weaken our confidence in the Qur’ānic worldview.
From al-Ghazāli and Ibn Taymiyyah to the challenges of secular psychology today, the question is not whether we engage with other ideas, but what foundation we bring to that engagement.

Why does the same allegation lead to a witch hunt for some, but silence for others?
In the first issue of Think Aloud, a new weekly email by Dr. Hamza Tzortzis, he examines the tragic case of Dr. Jason Arday, anti-Black racism, and selective silence, asking what our outrage — and our silence — reveals about us.

This Sunday, 16 August 2026 / 3 Rabbi al-Awwal 1448, Muslims across the UK will gather for Salat al-Istisqa' (the Prayer for Rain), reviving a Prophetic tradition during times of drought.
We are also encouraged to join our communities in seeking Allah’s mercy, giving charity, and reflecting on our responsibility to care for His creation. Find a prayer near you or, if you have the means, organise one yourself.

Hopelessness can feel convincing, but feelings are not the same as facts.
None of us can know with certainty what tomorrow will bring or how Allah may open a door we cannot yet see.

Why are we creating Hell online?
If a fellow Muslim believes in Allah, the Last Day, and strives to follow the Prophet ﷺ, why do we treat them as an enemy over secondary differences?
This is quite a timely reminder by Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi on mercy, brotherhood, and the dangers of turning disagreement into hostility.

Happiness is one of the most sought-after goals of our age. Yet in a culture increasingly centred on the self, are we actually looking in the wrong place? Research, lived experience, and the Qur’ān point towards a counterintuitive truth: lasting fulfilment is often found not in doing more for ourselves, but in doing more for others.
From Khadījah’s reassurance to the Prophet ﷺ, to the humanitarian work of Dr. Abdul-Rahman al-Sumait, to the simple joy of giving charity, Shaykh Ali Hammuda explores why service brings meaning, how Allah promises to “make space” for those who make space for others, and why the path to happiness may begin when we stop making life revolve around ourselves.

Few films arrive with as much anticipation as Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. But beneath its monsters, battles, and voyages lies an older question: what happens when a civilisation abandons the moral law that once held it together?
From the suitors consuming Odysseus’ house to the West’s own moral and social fractures, Homer’s epic offers an unsettling picture of civilisations that begin to decay from within. But Islam offers more than a diagnosis of decline. It gives us the revelation, principles, and responsibility needed to rebuild what has been lost.

Stop measuring da'wah by numbers

We find ourselves in the age of The Muslimah Trauma Industry, where the focus on "personal healing" and "trauma recovery" regularly fills auditoriums of Muslim females searching for relief from internal distress. But when does a helpful tool become a lifestyle — or even an identity?
While affirming the place of therapy and professional support where needed, Zimarina Sarwar asks whether endless self-analysis is leaving believers weaker, more fragile, and further from the Qur'ānic paradigm of resilience and purpose.

Islam is not just rose petals and good feelings
This is not a faith built around comfort, convenience, and constant positivity. While mercy and hope are central to the dīn, so too are accountability, struggle, and submission to Allah.
Shaykh Abu Eesa Niamatullah discusses the dangers of toxic positivity, why avoiding all criticism can harm communities, and how chasing “good vibes” can affect a person’s worship and relationship with Islam.
