Imagine if all of the time and effort of the Alberta and Quebec separatist movements were spent fighting the federal government on immigration, getting their people into the provincial and federal apparatu and pushing for Remigration.

The most direct reason I oppose Quebec or Alberta separatism is that if either one succeeds at this time, Canada dies. That’s it. The country ceases to exist in any meaningful sense. Centuries of history get thrown away because a province decided it wanted out. Ottawa knows this, which is why I doubt any federal government would ever willingly allow it. No government is going to sit there and calmly oversee the destruction of the country it governs. I don’t feel like watching my country get ripped apart while our standard of living declines, while mass immigration continues, and while ethnic enclaves become more common across the country. Canada already faces enough internal pressures without people actively trying to break it apart. A collection of successor states would not be more sovereign. They’d be smaller, weaker, and easier for outside powers, especially the United States, who is not looking very American these days, and India and China to dominate. Being a separatist is gambling with the long term survival of Canadians. The destruction of Canada as a political and historical nation, and potentially the eventual assimilation or extinction of the historic Canadian peoples as a ethnocultural groups, meaning the descendants of the British and French settlers who founded the country.
