Saying goodbye to you is the hardest thing I could ever do. Saying goodbye to my childhood legend, the person who has always been my role model and my everything. But well… it’s football. Sometimes, it hurts so much that it can drive you to the edge of madness. This day was bound to come eventually the day you say goodbye to the national team. And I honestly don’t know what to say. I don’t know how I’m supposed to react to my idol saying goodbye to the national team. I just want to say this: you will always be the greatest. Your place in football history, your greatness, and everything you have achieved are beyond doubt. History will never forget you. Never. Football found a meaning through you. The Portuguese national team found a meaning through you. Before you, there was nothing. Nothing. And now that you’ve left them, they will become nothing again. Our beloved legend, you will live in our hearts forever.

Finally, October is here. Only God knows how long I waited for this month to come, the month of your birthday. But now? You’re not here, and neither is the hope that had blossomed in me for your birthday.
