☁️Can data predict when Bishkek’s air becomes dangerous to breathe? Amir Osmanaliev, a student in the Freshman Research Program, is developing a predictive ML model to forecast dangerous PM2.5 pollution levels. Inspired by the smog problem in his hometown of Kara-Balta, Amir is using the power of research to tackle real-world challenges. 📈During the program, Amir learned how to critically read academic research, question claims, and embrace revision as a part of the research process. Looking to research and tackle real-world problems? Join the Freshman Research Institute and be surrounded by like-minded peers and experienced mentors who will help you explore meaningful research questions and develop valuable research skills. 📌 Register for our Research Program! @freshmanresearch x @freshmanblog

Introducing our official Freshman Research Institute logo. The vision of the Freshman Research Institute is to be a center for knowledge and new ideas across all disciplines motivated to solve real-world problems. That is why our logo depicts the arts, sciences, and humanities. We are excited to continue growing the Institute as we bring in more young researchers across Central Asia and the world while working with mentors from various emerging sectors. Here's a quote from the philosopher Karl Popper that best expresses our vision: "We are not students of some subject matter, but students of problems. And problems may cut right across the boundaries of any discipline.” For the Freshman Research Institute the sky, nay, the stars, are the limit. - Nigel Li, Director of the Freshman Research Institute @freshmanresearch

📈 Why do some privatization efforts succeed while others are reversed? Enrolled in the Freshman Research Program, Zamzamjon Askaraliev worked with Nigel Li to investigate Uzbekistan's privatization reforms. ✅ During the program, Zamzamjon learned how to critically evaluate ideas, develop strong academic writing skills, and strengthen his ability to connect theory to study real-world cases.
