U.S. officials pressed Israel to launch a unilateral strike on Iran during talks over the past two weeks, Maariv reports. Washington reportedly wanted Israel to assume the political risks of military action ahead of the U.S. midterm elections in November, believing Israel might favor a strike before its own Oct. 27 elections. IDF chief Eyal Zamir warned that renewed fighting could delay Israel’s vote. The U.S. has since dropped the demand, which reportedly stemmed from Iran’s rapid rebuilding of its ballistic missile and drone production capabilities.
