The 5 Stages of Design Thinking
1. Empathize: Understand your users.
Who are they?
What are they trying to achieve?
What's frustrating them?
Example: You're designing a food delivery app for university students. After talking to them, you discover they don't care about fancy animations—they just want affordable meals near campus, fast.
2. Define: Turn research into a clear problem statement.
Instead of:
❌ "Students need a better food app."
Define:
✅ "University students struggle to find affordable nearby meals quickly during short breaks between classes."
3. Ideate: Generate multiple solutions.
Maybe:
A budget filter
A map showing nearby restaurants
Meal recommendations based on student budgets
Explore before committing.
4. Prototype: Build a quick version in Figma.
The goal isn't perfection. It's learning whether your solution works.
5. Test: Show it to students.
Watch:
Where they get confused
Which features they ignore
Whether they can complete tasks easily
Then improve based on what you learn
