Especially after August 5, when any post could potentially go against religious or political groups, I consciously avoid such posts. https://bdmediamonitor.org/sometimes-self-censor-my-posts-try-to-hide-from-my-family-members/

'Self-censorship Has Now Become My Habit. Concerns about personal safety, family pressure, institutional oversight, and future career risks together, they mean that we can no longer speak as freely on social media as we would like to.' https://bdmediamonitor.org/still-face-restrictions-from-colleagues-relatives-and-friends-on-social-media-posts/

Family is supposed to be the first place of shelter, safety, and strength for a journalist. But often, family members themselves begin to monitor the journalist’s Facebook or other social media activities. Whenever they want to post something critical of the government, expose major corruption, or express political opinions, the family intervenes and discourages them. They believe such posts might create risks for the journalist. As a result, the journalist experiences fear and pressure from within, gradually leading to self-censorship. In this way, the family turns from a shelter into a kind of prison. To protect press freedom, families must become a source of support and courage, not of control or fear.

Families and institutions conduct surveillance on journalists’ social media activities. They restrict writing on government, major corruption, or political issues, arguing that such work may put the journalist at risk. But this constant pressure gradually makes journalists lose the courage to tell the truth, shrinking freedom of expression and depriving society of independent journalism.
