Whether this book is to be useful to you or not depends wholly on your reason for wishing to learn to draw. If you wish to obtain quicker perceptions of the beauty of the natural world and to preserve something in your mind like the true image of beautiful things that will pass away, I can help you. If you desire to only possess a graceful accomplishment, I cannot.

John Ruskin

"There is an art school here named after John Ruskin. He wrote that he teaches drawing so that people learn to really see, not so that they have nice drawings. The drawing is just the tool that I use to keep looking."
