44 years ago today, on the evening of 21st January 1981 the 86-year-old widower Sir Norman Stronge and his son James were watching television in the library of their ancestral home Tynan Abbey when a gang of IRA assassins burst in, armed with machine guns and grenades. They only had time to launch a flare raising the alarm, before being gunned down. Sir Norman Stronge was a veteran of the First World War, where he fought at the Somme, earning the Military Cross and the Belgian croix de guerre. From 1938-69 he was a member of the Northern Irish Parliament at Stormont, and was Speaker of that Parliament from 1945-69. We frequently find cases involving the far left and the paddystinians are either not forwarded to the DPP or if they do reach court proceedings are halted. Could there be a political agenda?
