Repost from sam’s reading spot 🍂
Tuesdays with Morrie
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
From the very first page this book tells you what will happen by the end and yet when i reached the ending i still found myself mourning it. I think that’s the whole point of everything in between. the fact that we’re all going to die and still get surprised when it happens as if death isn’t the only thing promised in this life.
The book highlights the importance of a good teacher some readers might not even think about it, but I did. The thought of a teacher and how they will never stop teaching even in death made me shiver.
I enjoyed the book and how easy the writing was. Although it isn’t really my type however, i want to give credit for covering such a sensitive subject like death with lightness, tenderness, and care.
My only tiny complaint is that most of what Morrie and Mitch talked about was mental/emotional. They don’t go into the physical aspects of aging in much depth. Physical pain is something you can’t avoid and it’s a huge part of getting old, in addition to everything else.
Also, sometimes Morrie speaks as if he represents all of society even though it’s only his perspective. He’s too privileged and some of the lines that seem like they should apply to everyone on earth don’t really fit for many people and because of that some things he said felt more delusional than positive.
That said, as long as I could engage this mush with a book, it must be a very good one.
