Process 5: The Client Displays the Result Finally, your app displays the information.

Process 4: The Server Sends a Response The server sends the requested data back through the API. Examples: Video data Weather information Bank balance

Process 3: The Server Processes the Request The server stores data such as: Videos Photos User accounts Messages The server searches for the requested information.

Process 2: The API Receives the Request The API receives the request and checks if it is valid. For example: Does the video exist? Is the user allowed to watch it? Is the request correctly formatted?

Process 1: The Client Sends a Request The client is the application asking for information e.g Your browser, WhatsApp, weather app etc Example: You open YouTube and click a video. Your phone sends a request: "Please play this video."

Every API communication follows 5 simple process.

HOW DOES API WORKS?

In the above example: You = Client (your app) Waiter = API Chef/Kitchen = Server Food = Requested information The waiter ensures everything is delivered correctly, just as an API does.

Another Example Imagine you visit a restaurant. You don't walk into the kitchen and cook your own meal. Instead: You tell the waiter what you want. The waiter takes your order to the chef. The chef prepares your food. The waiter brings it back.

Imagine you want to speak to a friend who only understands French, while you only speak English, you would need a translator right? Yes An API is like that translator. It takes your application's request, translates it into a language another application understands, and then translates the response back.

The burning question here is, why do computers needs api?

Now let me go deeper.....

You can also think of it as a messenger between two applications.

So if i am to give a break down definition of what api entails i would say: An API is a set of rules that allows two software applications to communicate and exchange information.

Since API stands for APPLICATION PROGRAMMING INTERFACE Now let me further break it down like someone who knows what he is teaching Application: this is a software program like Telegram, WhatsApp, Uber, YouTube, TikTok etc Programming: Writing instructions that tells the computer what to do. Interface: This is a bridge or connection that allows two things to communicate.
