"It is our suffering that brings us together. It is not love. Love does not obey the mind, and turns to hate when forced. The bond that binds us is beyond choice. We are brothers. We are brothers in what we share. In pain, which each of us must suffer alone, in hunger, in poverty, in hope, we know our brotherhood. We know it, because we have had to learn it. We know that there is no help for us but from one another, that no hand will save us if we do not reach out our hand. And the hand that you reach out is empty, as mine is. You have nothing. You possess nothing. You own nothing. You are free. All you have is what you are, and what you give." – The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin

constantly thinking about words and the way they allow us to carry little pieces of each other into other people's lives; like being gifted a book and finding a note from the other person on the first page, a long letter or a heartfelt paragraph, a message, a special nickname, a poem, a dedication. we are constantly reduced into things that are much smaller than our own existence, and maybe it is a beautiful thing to know that your overflowing self can sometimes be contained in something as small as a few words, a sentence someone remembers, a name they call you, a piece of paper they keep

I'd watch any film about people going on long walks having never-ending conversations about love while being miserable themselves

sometimes I wonder if my eyesight has gotten worse as I grow older, or if it’s the world that has gotten blurrier. I used to love going out, watching people do mundane things, reminding myself that even in the heart of the mess, I’m still here, in this crowd, existing and beating alongside all these other creatures around me. now I go out, and all I can see are sad shadows walking around. no matter how hard I try, I can’t see any farther than two steps ahead of myself. I can only see the things that are right in front of me, the things I can touch and hold with my own hands. the future is a mere hallucination, something unstable, always changing. I could stare directly into the sun, and it would be nothing but a big dark spot. I wonder if I’ll ever get my clear vision back

you'll never survive things in whole but you'll find yourself again and again in a conversation with a friend or in all the books and movies that weirdly resemble your experience

holding this pain in my hand and forcing myself to look at it right in the eyes and see it not as some kind of burden or imperfection, but instead as some kind of thread that connects me to all the other people in my life. yes I share your burden too, though mine looks completely different and it is in a different shape and form, but what are we if not lonely creatures trying to find a name for something that is unnamable?
