Many people(men) are defending Sydney Sweeny’s sport ad with the statement “my body my choice” and are questioning feminists who criticise her ad with this statement. Yes,her body is her choice..but this is an advertisement,and people have the right to question the motives and the message behind it. This is,I repeat,a sports ad. There’s zero connection between nudity and sports…is her body encouraging athletic ability,encouraging participation,or praising the sport? No. Sports are praised by discipline, strength,competition and achievement. So we have the right to ask,how does a naked body contribute to a sports ad? Women have fought for so many years to become a part of the athletic world. It’s not about how revealing she looks,it’s about how she reduced the effort and sacrifices lots of women had to endure into a sexual,male centred context.
