Drift doesn't feel like drift. It feels like responsibility. Busyness and direction both leave you tired, and tiredness feels like proof. So ask a harder question: not "is this a good use of three months," but "if the next twenty three-month periods look exactly like this one, is that a life I'd choose." Most things fail that. Fine, most of life is maintenance. But if nothing in the current three months is worth repeating twenty times, that's not a busy season. That's a direction. You can always start. but the forces that took the last five years are patient, and deciding doesn't weaken them. Only catching the trade each time its offered does, and that's due again next quarter. All this is to say

Nobody loses five years at once. You just say yes to the next three months, twenty times.

Let me share you something I think about a lot. Nobody every decides to waste five years. That's what make it possible. A large decision announces itself. You know when you're quitting a job, ending a relationship, moving countries. The weight of it forces you to think, and thinking is protective, you weigh, you doubt, you consult people, you sleep on it The decision might still be wrong btw, but it was examined. The trades that actually shape life tho don't announce themselves. They arrive as three months, This quarter is busy, so the writing waits, this year is expensive, so the risk waits, She is difficult right now, so the conversation waits. Every one of these is defensible on its own. That's the whole problem, you can't refuse a reasonable request, and each individual delay is entirely reasonable. The arithmetic only becomes visible in aggregate, and by then it isn't a decision anymore. It's a fact about your life. you look up and you've been meaning to do the thing for six years, not avoiding it. Meaning to do it. There is a difference in how it feels and no difference at all in the outcome.

You literally write functions to adjust your curve so that you can launch the marble to hit the stars

Although I am insanely camera shy 😂 so you won't see my face much

Let me tell you something i have learned through out my professional journey. Show yourself, Let people know what you are working on, don't listen to people who say አታሽቃብጡ, Approach who ever you think is scary, Talk to your boss as a friend, ask them about their life, you have no idea how much opportunities open. Most of the time we create this invisible line between the people we work with, but Really show your progress, don't think my job will do the talking, tbh most time it doesn't, unless the team is small, If you show them how much capable you are, there is nothing stopping you, I got promoted twice in a year btw, because I showed what i am capable of doing, that I can actually take initiative, that I can lead. and I have seen this everywhere I go. but that doesn't mean slack off after you gain their trust, rather work even more harder, and believe me, you will see.
