Overall, while spending time with family and shopping were more popular with women, the reverse was true for all other activates. The most pronounced disparities were observed in shopping, using the Internet, as well as playing computer games, which was the least popular activity on the chart. In 2006, nearly 80% of English men and women watched TV in their free time, making it the number-one hobby on the chart. Spending time with family was a close runner-up, but unlike watching TV, it was slightly more popular with women. Around 75% of men engaged in physical activities and reading, slightly more than women at 70%. The remaining pursuits exhibited much bigger discrepancies. Shopping was a female-dominated activity with close to 75% of women doing this, as opposed to just 30% of men. By contrast, only 40% of English women used the Internet in their spare time, compared to almost 75% of men. Playing computer games was also twice as popular with men, although its figures were much lower for both genders.
