Opinion: Biden runs risk of looking out of touch on gas prices President Joe Biden's latest comments on gas prices risk creating the perception he is out of touch with the economic pain felt by voters across the country and undermining support for his Ukraine policy . Consumers are currently paying on average nearly $5 per gallon, with prices exceeding $7 in some parts of the country, due in part to the bans placed on Russian energy products by the United States and its allies. Gas prices are similarly elevated around the globe. The economy and inflation, specifically prices at the pump, consistently poll as the top issues for all voters ahead of the midterm elections . Democrats and Republicans alike think Biden has miscalculated the willingness of the public to continue personally paying for a war in Europe.

Trial for US basketball star Brittney Griner begins in Moscow-area court American basketball star Brittney Griner has arrived at a Moscow-area court where she is scheduled to go on trial. Griner was arrested in February on cannabis possession charges at an airport while traveling to play for a Russian team. Police said she was carrying vape canisters with cannabis oil. Her trial is set to get underway on Friday. The Phoenix Mercury center and two-time U.S. Olympic gold medalist could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted of large-scale transportation of drugs. Fewer than 1% of defendants in Russian criminal cases are acquitted, and unlike in the U.S., acquittals can be overturned. The U.S. State Department considers Griner “wrongly detained.”

Trump to rally for Palin, Dunleavy, Tshibaka in Alaska Donald Trump plans to attend a rally in Alaska next week for candidates he has endorsed in the state, including Sarah Palin, who is running for the Alaska’s only U.S. House seat. A statement from a Trump political action committee said the event will take place July 9 in Anchorage. It says Trump will deliver remarks in support of Palin, Gov. Mike Dunleavy and Kelly Tshibaka, a Republican running for U.S. Senate in a race with incumbent Republican Lisa Murkowski. Trump late last year said Dunleavy had his “complete and total endorsement,” but that was subject to Dunleavy not endorsing Murkowski. Murkowski has been critical of Trump and voted to convict him at his impeachment trial last year. Tshibaka, in a statement, said: “It will be a great honor to welcome President Trump to Alaska for what will be the greatest attended political event in our state’s history.” Alaska’s elections are occurring under a system approved by voters that ends party primaries and institutes ranked voting in general elections. Under the system, the top four finishers in the Aug. 16 primary, regardless of party affiliation, are to advance to the November general election, where ranked voting will be used.

Young Voters are Down on Biden “President Joe Biden and young voters have always had a marriage of convenience. While they turned out in record numbers to vote against Donald Trump in 2020, the youngest generations have soured on Biden and lost faith in his agenda,” Time reports. “Biden’s approval rating with voters under 30 has dropped 23 points since the first months of his presidency, according to Gallup polling. It’s fallen 17 points with voters between 30 and 50. Only 34% of Millennials and Gen Z voters say they approve of Biden’s presidency so far, according to a Marist poll sponsored by NPR and PBS, and only 2% say they strongly approve.” “The trend could spell trouble for Democrats in the midterms. Young voters are crucial to the party’s coalition, boosting Democrats with record turnout in the 2018 and 2020 elections. Yet many young people feel the Biden Administration has failed to deliver on its promises as the President’s domestic agenda stalls.”

Drivers to pay higher gas prices for ‘as long as it takes’, Biden says Joe Biden said during a press conference at the NATO summit in Madrid that drivers can expect to pay higher gas prices for “as long as it takes” for Ukraine to win the war against Russia. The president was asked by Jim Tankersly of The New York Times, “how long is it fair to expect American drivers, and drivers around the world, to pay that premium for this war?” “As long as it takes,” Biden said. “Russia cannot in fact defeat Ukraine and move beyond Ukraine.” The president blamed Russia for the spiking gas prices as well as the global food shortage. “The bottom line is ultimately the reason why gas prices are up is because of Russia. Russia, Russia, Russia. The reason why the food crisis exists is because of Russia,” he said.

Let's be honest - you're not surprised. Biden says US will send $800 million in more security aid to Ukraine President Biden said Thursday that the U.S. plans to send an additional $800 million in security assistance to Ukraine including air defense systems and other “offensive” weapons. Biden disclosed the plans during a news conference following a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Madrid, where he declared the alliance united in response to Russia’s war in Ukraine. “This summit was about strengthening our alliance, meeting the challenges of our world as it is today and meeting the threats of the future,” Biden said in opening remarks at the press conference. Biden said the new assistance package would also include more artillery and ammunition.

Darren Bailey rips Gov. Pritzker: 'Epitome of a woke liberal government' Donald Trump-backed Illinois gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey slammed his opponent, incumbent Democrat Gov. J.B. Pritzker, Thursday, over his "woke" leadership as crime continues to cripple Chicago. "It's the lack of a message of hope to let the people of Illinois know that one know that we can bring safety back to our streets, that we can restore education, that we can support working families to live and thrive in Illinois again," Bailey said. "We just got to get out and get that message because the good people of Chicago have not heard that, and they've been burdened by just a woke mayor, a state's attorney, and burdened by a tyrannical governor," he continued. "That's our problem in Illinois, and we've got to shake that off and lead." Bailey called Chicago a "hellhole" during a debate last month as the city battles a surge in violence. He pinned the blame on the city and state leadership as businesses flee the state for safer communities. "The irony of that is, within hours after making that statement, a homeless man was burned alive in downtown Chicago," Bailey said. "And the interesting thing is the person that committed this crime was out on cash free bail, and this is the problem." "Ever since then, Chicago media has been trying to get me to walk this statement back, and that's what I'm telling these people," he continued. "And I'm not going to do it." Bailey also cited a COVID-related lawsuit he won against Prtizker as a state lawmaker in 2020 as his momentum to stand up to what he called the "tyrant" governor. "We've been the epitome of a woke liberal government for too long, and… we just needed someone to stand up and push back," he said. "Gov. Pritzker continues to issue executive orders... having a clamp down on the state of Illinois, and people are shrugging that off," Bailey continued. "But they need a message of hope, and that's what I've been doing. And it's resonating."

If you thought it was impossible... Biden Pitches Democrats on Biden for President in 2024 At fundraisers and on the sidelines of events in recent weeks, Joe Biden has been selling Democrats — on Joe Biden for 2024. It’s an unusual sales pitch reflecting an unusual political moment: the nation’s oldest sitting president, with a weakened political standing, grappling with questions in his own party about whether he will, or even should, run for another term, shaped by the prospect of a rematch against Donald Trump. “It’s basically the same argument he was making at this point in 2018 about why he thought he might have to run,” one Democrat familiar with the comments said. “He would just walk through every candidate.” Biden’s political operation insists he’s running — and amid questions of his viability, he now intends to show it.

Global stocks, Wall Street down after US economy shrinks Global stock markets declined Thursday after the U.S. economy contracted, fueling fears of a worldwide downturn. London and Frankfurt opened lower. Tokyo and Hong Kong declined while Shanghai gained. The future for Wall Street’s benchmark S&P 500 index was down 1.1% after data Wednesday showed the U.S. economy shrank in the first quarter amid high inflation and weakening consumer confidence. Investors are uneasy about signs the biggest global economy might be in a recession due to interest rate hikes imposed to cool surging inflation. “Equities demand could remain muted for at least the next four to six months as interest rate hikes work through the U.S. economy,” Stephen Innes of SPI Asset Management said in a report. In early trading, the FTSE 100 in London fell 1.5% to 7,202.53. The DAX in Frankfurt lost 2% to 12,746.35 and the CAC 40 in Paris shed 1.9% to 5,917.07. On Wall Street, the future for the Dow Jones Industrial Average was off 0.9%. On Wednesday, the S&P 500 slipped 0.1% after official data showed economic activity contracted 1.6% at an annualized rate in the three months ending in March. That was the first contraction since the second quarter of 2020 in the depths of the pandemic. The U.S. benchmark is down 7.6% for the month and 20% from its Jan. 3 peak. The Dow rose 0.3% while the Nasdaq composite slipped less than 0.1%.

Opinion: The GOP has an exciting new superpower: Latina Republicans For the most part, Mayra Flores doesn’t have Democrats’ support. But the Republican sure has their number. The newly sworn-in Latina congresswoman — who represents the 34th Congressional District, which is overwhelmingly Democratic and 84 percent Latino — knows liberals better than they know themselves. She ought to. She grew up surrounded by them in the Democratic stronghold of South Texas. In response to the sniping by Democrats, Flores tweeted this about the party of John F. Kennedy: “I’m their worst nightmare. They claim to be for immigrants. I’m an immigrant. They claim to be for women. I’m a woman. They claim to be for the people of color. I’m someone of color. Yet, I don’t feel the love. I am Democrats worst nightmare!!” Direct hit. Flores is calling out Democrats as phonies who don’t practice what they preach. As I’ve noted for many years, liberal Democrats in particular want Latinos to have every right — except the right to think for ourselves. When that happens, we might actually offer an opinion that disagrees with one of theirs. And they can’t have that. After all, to many of these people, we’re inferior. They’d be more comfortable with us serving up chips and salsa than policy proposals. Well, Democrats, you might want to get used to being uncomfortable. Flores could be just the beginning of a wave of conservative Republican Latinas heading to Washington.

Supreme Court allows Louisiana to use GOP-drawn congressional map with one mostly black district The Supreme Court on Tuesday sided with the Louisiana state legislature by allowing the state's Republican-drawn congressional map to remain in place after a lower court judge said the new districts violated the Voting Rights Act. In a one-page order, the court said it would wait until next term to rule on the matter, as a similar case from Alabama is scheduled to be argued next term. The three liberal Supreme Court Justices – Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elana Kagan – dissented. Baton Rouge District Judge Shelly Dick earlier this month said the map violated the federal Voting Rights Act. She ordered the Louisiana Legislature to draw a new plan by June 20, or else the court would at that point. Democratic Gov. John Bell Edwards vetoed the map earlier this year, but the GOP-controlled legislature overrode his veto. He said that because nearly one-third of Louisiana residents are black, two of the state's six congressional districts should be majority-black. With the court's ruling, Louisiana will use the original congressional maps for the 2022 midterm elections.

Scalise slams Biden on gas prices: 'They've been wrong on everything' House Minority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., to call out the Biden administration for cutting off American energy production which he argues has resulted in high gas prices. "Obviously, the people that are advising him, they've been wrong on everything. They're the people that said, oh, don't worry, if you leave Afghanistan, the Taliban is not going to take it over. 48 hours later, they had it. They also said Kiev's going to fall to Russia in a matter of days. And look at what Zelensky and the people of Ukraine are doing to push Russia away. They've been wrong on everything. They're wrong on energy, but they are just anti-American energy. And so that's why people are paying $5 a gallon. It should be less than $2. And it was less than $2 just a few years ago."

Gabbard criticizes Biden administration's policy on Russia, asks what is goal in 'war with Russia' Former Democrat congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard is criticizing the Biden's administration foreign policy toward Russia, saying it continues to dodge the question of what is the United States' goal in its "war with Russia" and when asked uses "Ukrainians as our proxy." "Every time this Admin has been asked what the goal of our war with Russia is, using Ukrainians as our proxy, they’ve dodged the question by declaring the president of Ukraine will make that decision & the U.S. will follow," Gabbard, a former Democratic presidential candidate who is an outspoke critic of her party, posted Wednesday on the social media site Truth Social. Russia invaded Ukraine in mid February. The U.S. and other Western nations have continued to provide financial and military support to Ukraine and its president, Vladimir Zelensky, in its fight against Russia. Zelensky has thus far vowed not to surrender. "I reaffirmed my commitment that the United States will stand by Ukraine as it defends its democracy and support its sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of unprovoked Russian aggression," Biden said earlier this month. Gabbard, of Hawaii, also said in her tweet: "The most important foreign policy position our country has faced in the last 60 years is not being made by US Congress or an American president, but by the leader of a foreign country. ... If handing over American sovereignty to a foreign country isn’t treason, what is?"

Gizzi: GOP Capture of Illinois Governorship 'Difficult but Not Impossible' Conservative swashbuckler and State Sen. Darren Bailey had just won the Republican primary for governor of Illinois when the question started: What chance does the Xenia farmer whose colleagues once voted to remove him from their chamber for the day for his refusal to wear a facemask really have at unseating Democrat Gov. J.B. Pritzker? “It will be difficult but not impossible,” former GOP State Sen. and retired Circuit Judge Ed Petka told Newsmax shortly after Bailey was declared the winner over five opponents with 57% of the vote. According to Petka—a conservative stalwart who supported one of Bailey’s opponents— “when people are upset with Biden and the Democrats over the cost of gasoline and the shortage of baby formula and crime is on the rise here, then you can’t say it’s impossible Darren Bailey will beat Pritzker.” 👉🏻

Opinion: Time for Republicans to unite behind Zeldin and save NY New Yorkers unfortunately have seen what one-party rule has wrought. A Democratic-controlled Albany and a left-wing mayor managed to set back New York City decades when it comes to quality of life, increasing crime, homelessness and disorder. And they have no shame about it. New Mayor Eric Adams may be taking a more moderate course, but the progressives are threatening any legislator who dares recognize that “no bail” legislation went too far. We desperately need a check on their power. All indications point to a red wave this November, and we’re confident Zeldin can unify the Republican Party, take back the governor’s mansion, and refill the “veto” pen with ink. The Republican primary was a hard fought and often vicious battle between some passionate candidates. We hope for the good of New York the candidates can now lick their wounds and then unite under the bigger cause of bringing sanity back to this state. The fight begins today.

Trump wins big in Illinois primary, New York GOP picks Zeldin over Giuliani Voters in five states chose nominees Tuesday for the fall election, with former president Donald Trump scoring big in Illinois where state Sen. Darren Bailey won the Republican gubernatorial primary and Rep. Mary Miller defeated fellow Republican congressman Rodney Davis. Miller and Davis were forced to compete against each other in the state’s redrawn 15th Congressional District. Miller is seeking a second term. Davis, the more moderate of the two candidates, had served in Congress since 2013. Trump campaigned for Miller and Bailey, a family farmer, this past weekend in the candidates’ home state. In perhaps the other most-closely-watched race, the Colorado GOP primary for secretary of state, Mesa County clerk Tina Peters lost her bid for the post amid an indictment for election tampering. Peters had sought Trump’s backing, and the race was considered a test about whether voters were still concerned about allegations of 2020 election fraud. In New York, GOP Rep. Lee Zeldin defeated first-time candidate Andrew Giuliani in the state's Republican gubernatorial primary, advancing to face incumbent Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul in the November general election. Hochul easily won her primary. Zeldin is considered by some Republicans to be the GOP's best chance in decades to win the New York governorship. Other Trump-backed winners were Utah GOP Rep. Burgess Owens, the former NFL star who in 2020 flipped a House seat held by Democrats; Illinois GOP Rep. Mike Bost who ran unopposed; and Oklahoma GOP Reps. Tom Cole, Frank Lucas and Kevin Hern, who also ran unopposed. Also in Oklahoma, the GOP primary for the seat of retiring GOP Sen. Jim Inhofe is headed to an August runoff between Rep. Markwayne Mullin and state lawmaker T.W. Shannon, after Mullin failed to get at least 50% of the vote, according to the Associated Press. With roughly 98% of the vote counted, Mullin had 44%, compared to 18% for Shannon. In addition, Oklahoma GOP Gov. Kevin Stitt swept the primary field with about two-thirds of the vote, as did Sen. James Lankford, who received more than 70% of votes counted when the wire service called the race in his favor. Two states had runoff elections, Mississippi and South Carolina. In Mississippi, six-term Republican Rep. Steven Palazzo lost his primary, runoff reelection bid to Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell. Palazzo was considered vulnerable for defeat after a House ethics report last year accused him of several violations including inappropriately using campaign funds. Palazzo won the initial primary with Ezell coming in second. In South Carolina, state Rep. Krystle Matthews won the Democratic Senate runoff against author Catherine Fleming Bruce. Matthews will challenge Republican Sen. Tim Scott this fall.

Joe Biden’s Political Future The country is rapidly realizing that Joe Biden is a mediocre politician whose crowning achievement is his own ambition. When Biden ran successfully for president the third time, he promised that he’d be different from Donald Trump. He has certainly delivered on that promise in ways that few expected. Biden promised unity but has fostered division. Biden promised competence but has delivered incompetence. Biden promised foreign-policy experience but has repeatedly sent mixed messages to our friends, allies and enemies. Biden promised clean energy solutions but has presided over the highest gasoline prices in the country’s history – along with rolling blackouts and uncontrolled forest fires. 👉🏻

Opinion: Democrats loved COVID pandemic and they wanted you to love it, too In March of that year, a full year after the initial pandemic alarm hit the U.S., Democrats and liberals were still hyperventilating over its spread: 82 percent of Democrats and Democrat-leaning voters believed the new coronavirus was a "major threat" to the entire US population "as a whole," according to a Pew Research survey. Frustration at Biden and other Democrats grows among abortion-rights supporters The rage among pro-abortion-rights protesters in front of the Supreme Court over the weekend was palpable. Plenty of that anger was aimed at the high court, but there was also quite a bit reserved for Democrats. "Democrats have used this for 50 years to fundraise. They had opportunities to codify Roe," she said. "They chose not to because being the pro-choice candidate in an election helps you raise money. And frankly, I'm pretty disgusted with a lot of our representatives right now." Since the May leak of Justice Samuel Alito's draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, Democrats' main message to their voters has been that abortion is on the ballot in November. But many who support abortion rights have been voting, and, like Yunker, they're frustrated that electing Democrats hasn't produced more results. 👉🏻

'These deaths are on Biden': Texas governor blames president after at least 46 people found dead in lorry The bodies of at least 46 people have been found inside a lorry in Texas. Fire officials said they found "stacks of bodies" and confirmed that 16 people, including four children, were taken to hospital and are "hopeful to survive". City officials believe the dead were migrants. No children are among the dead in the truck, which was found next to train tracks in the city's Southwest Side neighbourhood. Following the incident, Texas governor Greg Abbott tweeted that "these deaths are on Biden", adding: "They are the result of his deadly open border policies." His comments were aimed at President Joe Biden's administration and the pandemic-era rule that denies migrants, largely from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, a chance to seek asylum but encourages repeat attempts because there are no legal consequences for getting caught. Since the law was introduced in March 2020, people illegally crossing the border have been expelled more than two million times.

U.S. Supreme Court endorses football coach's on-field prayers The Supreme Court handed a big win to a former Washington high school football coach who lost his job over reciting a prayer on the 50-yard line after games. At issue was whether a public school employee praying alone but in view of students was engaging in unprotected "government speech," and if it is not government speech, does it still pose a problem under the First Amendment's Establishment Clause. The Supreme Court ruled Monday that the answer to both questions is no. "Here, a government entity sought to punish an individual for engaging in a brief, quiet, personal religious observance doubly protected by the Free Exercise and Free Speech Clauses of the First Amendment. And the only meaningful justification the government offered for its reprisal rested on a mistaken view that it had a duty to ferret out and suppress," Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote in the Court's opinion. "Religious observances even as it allows comparable secular speech. The Constitution neither mandates nor tolerates that kind of discrimination." 👉🏻

Wade, and said former President Donald Trump deserves credit for the landmark decision. "President Trump deserves the lion's share of credit here. He fought like a tiger to put three constitutional conservative judges on the court. He stood behind Kavanaugh and all of us who've been working for the last 50 years to get this right to have a constitutional reset," Graham said on "Fox News Sunday." "Friday was a glorious day," Graham added. Trump successfully nominated three candidates to serve on the Supreme Court during his tenure as president, giving the court a conservative majority. The court voted 6-3 to overturn Roe v. Wade on Friday, which effectively ended the recognition of abortion as a constitutional right. Trump celebrated the decision, arguing the ruling "will work out for everybody" as state’s will now hold more power on abortion access. The former president did not take credit for any role in the landmark abortion decision in his remarks to Fox News, saying instead that "God made the decision."

Donald Trump Hails His Supreme Court Picks Behind Abortion Ruling Former U.S. President Donald Trump hailed his three Supreme Court picks for "standing their ground" to end the constitutional right to abortion, as he spoke at a rally in Illinois on Saturday - a day after the court overturned Roe V Wade. Three justices Trump nominated during his single term as president - Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett - all voted in favor of overturning the landmark 1973 ruling on Friday, in a decision expected to lead to abortion bans in about half the states. The vote was 5-4 in favor of overturning Roe. "Yesterday the court handed down a victory for the Constitution, a victory for the rule of law, and above all, a victory for life," Trump told the crowd during Saturday's rally in Mendon. Trump said he had promised in 2016 to appoint judges and justices who "would stand up for the original meaning of the Constitution" and "honestly and faithfully interpret the law as written." "Thanks to the courage found within the United States Supreme Court, this long divisive issue will be decided by the states and by the American people," Trump said. "That's the way it should have been many, many years ago and that's the way it is now so congratulations. As for the Republican Party, we are today the party of life and we are the party of everyone." At this point, the crowd proceeded to chant "Thank you Trump! Thank you Trump!" Trump thanked the crowd and continued: "We believe that every precious child is born and unborn as the sacred gift from God."

GOP Rep. Mayra Flores accuses Speaker Nancy Pelosi of ‘pushing’ daughter during photo op A newly-elected GOP congresswoman accused House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of “pushing” her young daughter during a photo op at her swearing-in ceremony last week. Rep. Mayra Flores of Texas made the accusation after a video posted on social media showed her posing with Pelosi and her family at the ceremony — with conservative commentators saying the speaker “” Flores’ daughter. “No child should be pushed to the side for a photo op. PERIOD!!” Flores captioned a retweet of the video. “I am so proud of my strong, beautiful daughter for not allowing this to faze her,” she said. “She continued to smile and pose for the picture like a Queen.” The video shows Pelosi, standing next to Flores’ daughter, as she waves over the family’s pastor. Pelosi then looks at the girl and extends her elbow at the same point that the child moves over.

More than 1 million voters switch to GOP in warning for Dems The examined nearly 1.7 million voters who had likely switched affiliations across 42 states for which there is data over the last 12 months, according to L2, a political data firm. L2 uses a combination of state voter records and statistical modeling to determine party affiliation. While party switching is not uncommon, the data shows a definite reversal from the period while Trump was in office, when Democrats enjoyed a slight edge in the number of party switchers nationwide. But over the last year, roughly two-thirds of the 1.7 million voters who changed their party affiliation shifted to the Republican Party. In all, more than 1 million people became Republicans compared to about 630,000 who became Democrats.

Is gas tax holiday a terrible idea? This economist says yes A Northeastern expert believes that a three-month gas tax break, suggested by President Joe Biden, is a bad policy proposal amid an existential environmental crisis. "The proposed gas tax holidays is a horrible idea," says Robert Triest, chair of the Department of Economics and a former vice president at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. "The only thing that I can think of in favor of the gas tax holiday is that, perhaps, [it] is good politically for the president. But I can think of nothing else to say in favor." Triest listed three main reasons for his unfavorable assessment of the president's suggestion: Climate change; limited supply of refined petroleum products; and concern for infrastructure funding. 👉🏻

Tucker on Biden’s Note Card: Instructions Made Like Biden Didn’t Know Where He Was During his Fox News show on Thursday night, host Tucker Carlson sounded the alarm about how the instructions on the card made it seem like Biden was unable to perform some of the most basic functions without some assistance from his staff. Below is a transcript of the exchange: Carlson: “This is kind of a sad story, none of the details will shock you, they will only confirm what you already knew, but, still, as a news program we feel duty-bound to tell you that today in the White House, Joe Biden was photographed with a card in his hand, a card of instructions. These are the kind of instructions you would give to a child. This is essentially elder abuse at the hands of his handlers, Ron Klain. The card contains a series of step-by-step instructions for Joe Biden as if he literally had no idea where he was. Now, these are not complex. It literally reads this, this is verbatim: ‘You enter the Roosevelt Room. You take your seat. You thank the participants. You depart.’ What are we to make of this? Dr. Marc Siegel joins us tonight to assess. Dr. Siegel, thanks for joining us, I’m not quite sure what to say, but you are the physician. What is your response to this?” SIEGEL: “Yikes, Tucker. You know, I always say I haven’t examined the President, but somebody thinks he needs this note card, don’t they, his staff? ‘You take a seat, you ask one question…’ — this explains why only one question he takes — ‘…then you depart.’ Let me tell you something. There is something called executive function, and I talked about that last time we discussed this. Let me tell you what executive function is according to all the neuroscience journals that I looked. Plan, focus your attention, remember instructions, juggle multiple tasks, plan your actions, time management, organizational skills and memory. All of the things that if you didn’t have them, they would put it on a note card for you. They would control you with it. And you know what? Guess what he is? He’s the chief executive. Another word: cognition — means thinking, means knowledge. And why did the President not have a cognitive test last year during his physical?”

Pelosi Statement on Supreme Court Overturning Roe v. Wade
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after a Republican-appointed Supreme Court majority voted to overturn Roe v. Wade: “Today, the Republican-controlled Supreme Court has achieved the GOP’s dark and extreme goal of ripping away women’s right to make their own reproductive health decisions. Because of Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, the Republican Party and their supermajority on the Supreme Court, American women today have less freedom than their mothers.

Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, ending 50 years of federal abortion rights The Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, effectively ending recognition of a constitutional right to abortion and giving individual states the power to allow, limit, or ban the practice altogether. The court’s controversial but expected ruling gives individual states the power to set their own abortion laws without concern of running afoul of Roe, which for nearly half a century had permitted abortions during the first two trimesters of pregnancy. Almost half the states are expected to outlaw or severely restrict abortion as a result of the Supreme Court’s decision. Other states plan to maintain more liberal rules governing the termination of pregnancies. “The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives,” a syllabus of the opinion said.

How abortion bans could be enforced if Roe v. Wade is reversed If the Supreme Court issues a ruling that would allow states to ban abortion, as is expected in the coming days, such a decision would raise new questions about how authorities would enforce such bans and whether the anti-abortion movement would stick to its public emphasis on protecting abortion-seekers themselves from prosecution. What has been the pattern abroad in countries that ban abortion, along with United States' own experience before Roe, previews a complicated and unequal enforcement landscape. For years as they fought to overturn Roe v. Wade, leaders of the anti-abortion movement have stressed that prosecutions should be focused on abortion providers and others who facilitate the procedure, rather than the person seeking it. But the movement's critics point to examples of when the criminal justice system has already -- with Roe still on the books -- been turned on women whose pregnancies have been purposely or inadvertently terminated.

Biden approval falls fourth straight week, tying record low U.S. President Joe Biden's public approval rating fell for a fourth straight week to 36% matching its lowest level last seen in late May, according to a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll. The president's approval rating has stayed below 50% since August, a warning sign that his Democratic Party could lose control of at least one chamber of the U.S. Congress in the Nov. 8 midterm elections. Thirty-four percent of Americans say the economy is the most important issue currently facing the United States. Biden has been plagued by 40-year-highs in inflation, with Russia's invasion of Ukraine restricting global fuel supply and supply chains still constrained by the COVID-19 pandemic. Among his own party, Biden's approval rating remains largely unchanged since last week - at 73% compared to 74% on June 15. But among Republicans, Biden's rating slipped to 7% compared to 11% on June 15. Only 18% of Americans think the country is headed in the right direction.

The principal said they don’t call children “boys” and “girls,” and teachers embed values of gender theory into classroom lessons. They ask kindergartners, “What could have been done differently on Thanksgiving?” How can five-year-olds answer such a bizarre question that shames them for their American heritage? The principal told me these were “common practices” but could not define a “common practice” or tell me when these “practices” originated. Now I wanted to know these “common practices” and the educational pedagogy supporting them, but the school refused to answer my questions.

💭Joe Biden is no longer useful to the ruling class. After being used to win an election, he’s now making it impossible for them to credibly foist on Americans the idea that his party could win another one with him on their masthead. The donkey is showing through the lion skin, and so they need a new donkey. So while it seems utterly legitimate to insist on accountability such as appointing a special counsel to investigate the Biden family’s apparent corruption, that also could relieve the Democrat Party of their greatest liability. They’d probably deeply appreciate that, in fact. Biden got the ruling class what they wanted, and they don’t need him any more. Getting rid of him now would in fact be highly convenient for maintaining their power.

Kamala Harris Can't Be Bothered with Proper Border Visit, But She Did Go to Honduran President's Inauguration It's been over 10 months since President Joe Biden named Vice President Kamala Harris the border czar, among many other tasks, which she has also failed at. Since then, she has made one border visit--if you can call it that--which took place last June. While Harris doesn't have time for multiple visits, never mind more proper ones, she does have time to attend the inauguration for Honduras' Xiomara Castro, a socialist, which took place on Thursday. The RNC called out Harris' lack of responsibility when it came to her attending. "Border Czar Kamala Harris is yet again dodging responsibility and flying over the Biden border crisis to travel to Honduras to celebrate the inauguration of a self-avowed socialist. Nearly 2 million illegal immigrants have been apprehended at the border, deadly drugs are pouring in, and crime is surging. Biden and Harris don’t care about the devastation their failed policies are causing the American people," RNC Communications Director Danielle Alvarez said in a statement. Fox News' Houston Keene covered the trip on Wednesday, covering what other outlets did not when it comes to Castro's troubling attributes, as well as that of First Vice President Salvador Nasralla and Nasralla's wife, who have made noteworthy comments about Jews and Israel. Harris has run into trouble for failing to call out antisemitism before. Last March she gave opening remarks for the 2021 Black Women's Roundtable "Women of Power" Summit, where anti-Semite figure Tamika Mallory, who co-founded but was too extreme to remain part of the Women's March, also spoke. Last October, Harris also took questions from students at George Mason University, where one student claimed in remarks unchallenged by Harris that Israel was engaging in "an ethnic genocide." Harris thanked the young woman for speaking her truth, while her office was left to later do damage control. On Thursday, the White House released a readout between Castro and Harris, which was the newly inaugurated president's first meeting with a foreign leader. According to the readout, the two discussed issues such as "addressing the root causes of migration, combatting corruption, and expanding economic opportunity." Additionally, the vice president told President Castro that vaccines against the Wuhan coronavirus will be arriving in the country. Harris is expected back in the United States late Thursday night.

💭Vladimir Putin’s new year is off to quite a start. The Russian autocrat isn’t just massing troops on the Ukraine border, kicking off a diplomatic panic in European capitals and in Washington. In recent days he’s also backed a refugee stand-off with Poland, helped Kazakhstan’s strongman squelch pro-democracy protests, maintained a presence in Assad’s Syria, established new footholds in Mali and Central African Republic, cozied up to communist China, and, in a nod to Khrushchev, hinted he might build military infrastructure in Cuba and Venezuela. What’s remarkable about this geographically expansive, chaos-inducing, dangerous spectacle is that it was entirely avoidable. Mr. Putin is no cipher. He is a son of the former Soviet Union, a system that was steeped in lies and sustained by violence, an experience that shaped his leadership style. Any threat to his power at home, by a political opponent or too-inquisitive journalist, is put down immediately. Abroad, any democratic movement on Russia’s periphery, be it in Georgia, Ukraine, or elsewhere, is rapidly undermined by Russian military power or proxies like the Wagner Group. This is not a man who responds to diplomatic niceties or craves adoration from Davos Man. Mr. Putin is more accurately understood as a corrupt thug with a nuclear arsenal and oil rigs. 💭OPINION While President Biden’s downward spiral in public approval continues, nervous Democrats have sought to reassure one another to remain calm, insisting there remains ample time for the administration to right the ship and bring the American people on board. Signs of desperation have crept onto the horizon, and none more politically fraught than rumors that Bill and Hillary Clinton will re-emerge to rescue the party — he as strategist and she as candidate for president in 2024. That Democrats would turn for salvation to the most self-absorbed individuals in recent American history is compelling evidence that faith in a Biden administration rebound is fast disappearing, likely costing Congressional majorities this year and the White House in three years. Kamala Harris is a walking public relations nightmare, her bizarre and often incoherent public utterances have secured her place on the roster of America’s most inconsequential vice presidents.Speculation will continue to swirl around whether Biden, at 82 years of age, will forgo a re-election effort in 2024, leaving Harris as the heir apparent — a prospect terrifying Democrats while delighting Republicans.Enter Bill and Hill, the answer to the short bench bedeviling the Democrats in search of a candidate with a chance of winning but who, at the least, will avert a landslide loss and maintain a competitive position in Congress. Is the nation, though, prepared for a Clinton-Trump rematch?
