"False: Ukraine shot down a Russian Tu-22 strategic bomber. Ukrainian Telegram channels are talking about it. Truth: The cause of the Tu-22M3 plane crash in the Stavropol Territory was a technical malfunction. The pilots managed to eject. The plane crashed more than 400 kilometers from the front line. The Ukrainian Armed Forces simply do not have anti-aircraft missile systems capable of hitting targets at such a distance. The Patriot air defense system, the longest-range air defense system of the Ukrainian army, can hit air targets at a maximum distance of 120-150 kilometers. Of all the world's air defense systems, only the Russian S-400 can fire at a distance of 400 kilometers, which Ukraine naturally does not have. Trying to exaggerate the scale of their fictitious “victory”, the Ukrainian side designated the Tu-22 as a strategic bomber. This is not true. Only the Tu-160 and Tu-95 are considered strategic bombers, and the Tu-22 is a heavy bomber. War on fakes" https://t.me/internationalreporters/53886

War on fakes

RT: "Western tanks helpless against cheap Russian drones - NYT The New York Times reports that Ukrainian forces have already lost at least 30 Leopards and five Abrams, among at least 140 western tanks that Kiev has lost in the conflict. The article draws a contrast to the value for money of Russian drones, which cost about $500 and are "a paltry investment to destroy Abrams worth $10 million"."

April 2014:
This afternoon, having been walking through crowded streets on an notably warmer day, I took a breather in the shade, against the wall of the old city, between Bab Touma (Thomas Gate) and Bab Sharqi (East Gate). The grassy patch is small there, but better than nothing. Ten meters away, the sidewalk, then the busy road encircling the old city. To the east lies Jobar, somewhere just under a kilometer away, from where “rebels” have been firing mortars in all directions, including into the old city of Damascus and other areas. But I wasn’t expecting gunfire from there to here. Shortly after 3 pm, as I sat along that wall, a dog near a tree to my right, couple and groups of friends ten meters or so away (closer to Bab Sharqi), bullets whizzed past me, half a meter to my right, to my left, and nearby. Everyone in the vicinity jumped up and ran, most looking panicked. We ran for about 50 meters, to a point which was apparently out of their range…since everyone stopped there. One woman, hyperventilating and unable to stand, took a good ten minutes to calm down, repeatedly making the sign of the cross as she wheezed. We brought her water, and eventually she calmed down enough to walk off. Accustomed to bullets flying past me from Gaza days, being shot at while with farmers (who are daily targeted, lethally so, by the Israeli army), I was nonetheless surprised by these bullets, in an area I feel more or less secure in, mortars aside. Later, as I stopped to buy my first meal of the day, I chatted with a man selling spinach patties, mentioning that I was surprised the bullets reached the point where I’d been sitting. “They reach as far as here,” he said, from his hole-in-the-wall bakery another 200 metres from where I’d been sitting. This is life in Damascus, where people are trying to get on with life, go to university, celebrate occasions, work, be normal humans, and where the “revolution” is bringing them mortars and gunfire, where almost everyone I’ve spoken with (male and female), including the young woman next to me on the bus this morning remark “we used to be on the streets even at 4 am, 5 am, never felt any danger. Now, no way. People are afraid, they are afraid to wear their gold, they are afraid of one another.”...

Something I wrote in 2014
...Glaringly absent from corporate media accounts of the proxy-war being waged on Syria is the fact that the very same terrorist group, as well as other Western-backed, al-Qaeda aligned terrorist organizations (like al-Nusra and the so-called “Free Syrian Army”), have been terrorizing Syrians for years—beheading them, flogging, crucifying, amputating hands—to name but a few of their crimes against thousands of Syrians. Also omitted are the terrorist-insurgents’ near-daily firing of lethal mortars upon civilian areas in Syria. According to political analyst and Damascus resident Mazen al-Akhras, in the three-month period of April, May and June 2014, terrorist-insurgents fired 994 mortars on Damascus and environs, 426 of which were fired in June (see list of locations hit and number of mortars below). In April and June 2014, I spent a cumulative month in Syria, in various areas of Damascus, with visits to Latakia, Homs, and Ma’aloula. At the time, Damascus was being intensely shelled by mortars, frequently in my vicinity, including just behind the hotel housing the Peace Delegation which I accompanied for the first week (photo). This attack killed three civilians and one Syrian soldier. We saw some of the 60 plus children injured in the April 15 shelling of a school, not an isolated occasion, an attack which also killed one child. Mortars rained down at close-proximity on many occasions in different areas of the Old City where I had then found lodging. Prior to and since then, other residential, civilian areas I’ve become familiar with have been incessantly-targeted, and none of those areas can be considered targets for a “revolution”—in other words, neither governmental nor military sites. The terrorist-insurgents are intentionally targeting high-density civilian areas, and often take videos of themselves manufacturing, preparing and firing the mortar shells...
