Pros of using a suppressor: -reduces the sound of the report -nearly eliminates muzzle flash -nearly eliminates muzzle blast -reduces muzzle climb -marginally increases bullet velocity (thus gaining more power and penetration) -simple, easy, cheap, and quick to craft at home Cons of using a suppressor: -cannot use with sabot rounds -absorbs a ton of heat, can begin to glow after several magazines -adds length to your rifle, affecting maneuverability -adds weight to the muzzle -amplifies the sound of the action cycling (semi-autos only) -changes how semi-auto actions cycle (which may require a different buffer, springs, gas system, or bcg) -marginally increases bullet velocity (potentially causing an intended subsonic round to break the sound barrier and make a sonic boom) -requires a special spring mount (called a booster) for many common semi-auto pistols, or the pistol will not cycle -it is a felony to own an unregistered suppressor (in USA) In summary, a suppressor is an incredibly useful tool, but as with all tools, it isn't magic and has definite limitations.  If you know the limitations of your tool and implement it into your operations while planning accordingly, it will increase your combat effectiveness and give you more options to play with.  @es0tericguerrilla (with apk) @esotericguerrilla5 (archive) @way_of_wrath

FRY THE BRAIN CHAPTER 6: SUPPRESSORS In this chapter I will diverge from the prevailing sentiment expressed by the author, where he lauds the near infallibility of the suppressor.  While a suppressor is an incredibly useful tool, it is important that you recognize the limitations of your equipment.  Suppressors were originally designated as "silencers" by the inventor, but have come to be generally referred to as "suppressors" because it is a far more accurate moniker.  Suppressors do not silence the report of a gunshot, as the author implies, they merely suppress it. It does not decrease the volume of the report to a level comparable to "the closing of a car door"; in fact, a suppressed gunshot (sometimes even with subsonic ammunition) is easily heard from a significant distance away and can damage your hearing if fired often without earplugs.  It does however change the sound of the report into a different sound which is less readily identified as a gunshot.  Additionally, the report of a gunshot is only one part of the act of firing a gun that makes noise.  You can break it down into 4 parts.  1) The gas escaping the barrel A suppressor contains the resultant gas from deflagrated gunpowder that propels the bullet out of the barrel.  This results in a significantly decreased report volume, as well as mostly eliminates muzzle blast (debris like dust, leaves, or powdery snow blown into the air from the gas leaving the barrel, potentially giving away your position) and muzzle flash (the still-burning powder leaving the muzzle, which makes a bright flash, potentially giving away your position) 2) The action cycling In a semi-auto rifle or pistol, some of the gas from the burning powder is bled from a port in a rifling groove of the barrel back to the bolt, which throws the bolt and bolt carrier (or slide in a pistol, in a slightly different manner, not using a gas tube) back, which ejects the spent casing.  The buffer spring compresses then expands, stripping a round off the magazine and loading it into the chamber.  This happens in the blink of an eye, and it makes quite a bit of noise.  When you add a suppressor into the equation, you increase the amount of time the gas pushes on the bolt by raising the pressure in the gas tube and keeping it higher for longer, which increases the sound of the action cycling.  So although it is counterintuitive, a suppressor actually makes the cycling of the action louder.  You can compensate for this by using a bolt action rifle (with which you manually cycle the action, and is practically silent), so long as you take rate of fire into consideration when planning for your mission.  Additionally, since the cycling of the action is affected, it is sometimes necessary to adjust your gas system, buffer, buffer spring, and/or bcg to get your rifle to cycle correctly and reliably.  3) The supersonic crack of the bullet If you are using supersonic ammunition (which is the vast majority of ammo) then the bullet leaves the muzzle faster than the speed of sound, and it makes a sonic boom during its entire flight until it either slows enough to be subsonic or strikes the target.   This is quite loud, and a suppressor does not affect the sonic boom made by the bullet.  You can compensate for this by using subsonic ammunition, but by doing so you lose a great deal of range, power, and penetration.  This is not to say it's a problem induced by suppressors, because it isn't, it's just a property of supersonic ammunition, and an eventuality you need to plan for.  You will still be harder to detect using a suppressor, even with supersonic ammo.  4) The impact of the bullet When the bullet strikes either your target or another solid object, it makes a tremendous smack, and is easily heard, especially if you hit metal or rocks.  Again, this happens regardless whether or not you use a suppressor, it's just another variable to take into consideration.  So now that we have gone through what makes the sounds in a gunshot, let's go through the pros and cons.

FRY THE BRAIN CHAPTER 3: THE PSYCHOLOGY OF SNIPING In this chapter, we will review the psychological effects a guerrilla sniper has on the enemy, and how to exploit those effects.  FEAR "Knowing a sniper is loose is like knowing a cobra is at large somewhere in your house. It makes you paranoid, it freezes you.  You stop walking by beds, couches: you open drawers.  One is left with the eerie sensation that instant death is always just a moment away.  People who live under the fear of snipers lose track of everything in the world but their fear." FRY THE BRAIN: CHAPTER 4 This chapter dives into the versatility of the weapons used in guerrilla sniping and improv weapons. Reconsider. -Improvisation is a major part of guerrilla sniping. Popular stereotypes of "sniping" must be completely disregarded. To put the idea of a "sniper" in a Hollywood themed box is to defeat the purpose of its utility in 4GW. Your weapon is what you make it. -The long rifle? Absolutely. However, bolt action or mag fed long rifles may be the "traditional" approach to guerrilla sniping, but are not the end all be all. -Can a shotgun be used in urban sniping? Absolutely. Ballistics can be made extremely difficult if not almost assuredly impossible as the system becomes more unstable. -What about a pistol? Absolutely. The concealment abilities of pistols make them all the more desirable and, ideally, should hardly hinder a shooter's movement during escape. -Carbines and assault rifles? More often than not, these have been used by guerrillas due to availability, being taken from state forces, widely popular and available, concealment eg: ability of many but not all to be broken down and stowed in a bookbag/jacket. Where there's a will, there's a way. The laws of the land you walk may prohibit you from owning firearms completely, or may put limits on who can purchase a firearm and how. There will always be a way, however. There are countless books floating around on homemade firearms, and 3D printing has even circumvented much of the need for machining them. FRY THE BRAIN CHAPTER 5: GUERRILLA SNIPERCRAFT Weapon Storage: Do not under any circumstance keep your weapon at your home or in your vehicle.  You must find a safe place to hide it where if it is found by zogbots it cannot be traced back to you.  Be creative, public property in a low travel area can be just as effective as if you buried it miles out innawoods.  Ensure your weapon is properly cleaned, oiled, and sealed before stashing it to prevent rust or environmental contamination.  Training: Must be undertaken in a clandestine manner, so as not to attract unwanted attention.  Approach it from an academic perspective, there are many excellent books you can read to learn it directly from the source, from such as Vasily Zaitsev's Notes of a Sniper, Fry the Brain, the IRA green book, and many others.  You can also study footage of Juba and other insurgent snipers to learn how they position themselves for a shot or a quick getaway.  The art of shooting is also an important part of it, since you won't be much good if you're real sneaky but can't hit the broad side of a barn.  Local shooting and hunting clubs are a good way to hone your shooting skills without raising any eyebrows.  Local ranges and dry fire drills are excellent tools as well.  Ensure you are well versed in clearing weapon malfunctions in an expeditions manner (see St. Earnest), as you will be up shit creek if you can't fix a jam while under fire.  Some countries, mostly European ones, have especially oppressive gun laws that make training on a weapon system nearly impossible without attracting undue scrutiny.  In cases like this, you can travel to a nearby country where the laws are more lax and conduct training there.  The Iraqi insurgents often did this because they were constantly harrassed by american troops while conducting training in their home country.  Its not an especially inviting concept, but in some extreme cases it may be the best option.  Choosing a shooting platform: Study all aspects of the target, to include scheduled patrols, guard posts, infil and exfil routes.  Be sure to be clear of all potential witnesses, to include security cameras and your cell phone.  Your cell phone is a portable spy device; it MUST stay at home.  Ensure the vehicle you take to the area either doesnt have gps or is disabled.  For the remainder of chapter 5, I would be taking away from the thoroughness of the text if I attempted to summarize it.  It details the various other considerations of choosing a hidesite and shooting angles, as well as urban camouflaging and different tactics re. blending in with your locale and strategies for different environments.  If you read only one chapter out of this book for yourself, it should be this one.  @es0tericguerrilla (with apk) @esotericguerrilla5 (archive) @way_of_wrath

FRY THE BRAIN CHAPTER 5 PART 1: PROCURING A SUITABLE SNIPER WEAPON Method 1: battlefield recovery Put in it's simplist terms, this is when you take the weapon from the dead hands of the enemy.  This is one of the more dangerous ways to acquire a weapon, but this method does the most damage to the enemy at the least cost to you.  You gain a weapon, the enemy loses a weapon and the pig that wielded it. Method 2: theft You could also acquire a weapon via home invasion or robbing a gun store, but these are risky endeavors, so a better solution would be to have a sympathetic supporter legally purchase the weapon you want, and then arrange for it to be "stolen" and have the purchaser immediately report the theft so they won't be linked with that weapon in the future.  Method 3: making or modifying your own weapon This method requires knowledge of gunsmithing and a good deal of mechanical aptitude, but if you have the will and the way, then by all means go for it.
