A tool bag recently lost by NASA astronauts during a spacewalk is now orbiting Earth and is surprisingly visible to stargazers. The object has been confirmed to be as bright as a 6 magnitude star and has been captured on video from Añasco, Puerto Rico on November 11, 2023 around 7:15 pm AST (23:15 UT) as the tool bag was passing very close to where we see Almizan III and Altair, the brightest star in the constellation of Aquila. Eddie Irizarry and Nelson Ortega from Sociedad de Astronomia del Caribe were able to capture the video and explained that the tool bag appears slightly changing in brightness, which suggests the object is tumbling as it orbits our planet. Although the tool bag was ahead of the space station by about a minute or two shortly after the incident, it is gradually appearing earlier than the ISS as it loses altitude. In fact, both predictions and observations confirmed it was already about five minutes ahead of the space station on November 11 (the date this video was taken) and by mid November the tool bag should be ahead by about ten minutes. Experts from Sociedad de Astronomia del Caribe also said that as the tool bag loses altitude, it has slightly drifted to the East of the space station's trajectory. The approximate re-entry has also been updated and now estimates indicate it should disintegrate through the atmosphere sometime between March and July, 2024. The Space Station is seen on the last segment of the video, as it was passing close to where we see the bright star Altair. Satellite and orbital tracking resources were used to confirm the captured object on this video is in fact the tool bag that was accidentally lost by astronauts Jasmin Moghbeli and Loral O'Hara on November 2, 2023.
