Spiny spiky devil 👹
"This must be my best observation in the cloud forests of Ecuador (Mindo). This is a genus of nocturnal, conehead katydids, called Panacanthus. They’re incredibly hard to find, due to their camouflage. They often sit on moss and lichen, making them practically invisible. This is a subadult female, easy to sex due to the huge ovipositor (the big stinger, only used to lay eggs).
These Katydids are predatory, hunting everything from frogs to moth, but occasionally also eat fruit. And absolutely stunning animal, I put her exactly back where I found her and payed her for her troubles with a fresh caught moth. She devoured that one happily, haven’t seen her since."
