He confirmed that giving Zakat al-Fitr in money is not sufficient because that is contrary to the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ุตูู ุงููู ุนููู ูุณูู
and the Rightly Guided Caliphs, who used to pay it from food.
The Grand Mufti of the Kingdom said: โZakat al-Fitr is paid from human food, such as wheat, rice, raisins, aqat, and other things. It is obligatory for the Muslim in the place where he meets sunset on the last day of Ramadan. It is also permissible to pay it a day or two before the Eid.โ
He added: โIt can begin to be paid from the 28th of Ramadan or the 29th of the holy month, and Zakat al-Fitr must be delivered to the hands of the poor in need, or given to those whom they have appointed to receive it.โ
He added: โZakat al-Fitr has been prescribed for all Muslims, males and females, old and young, free and slaves, as a saaโ of food, based on the two Sahihs from the hadith of Ibn Umar ุฑุถู ุงููู ุนูู who said that the Messenger of God, ุตูู ุงููู ุนููู ูุณูู
, imposed zakat al-fitr in Ramadan as a saaโ of dates or a saaโ of barley on the young and the old, the male and the female, the free and the slave among the Muslims.โ A person pays it for himself and those he supports, including his wife and children.
