I am posting some of the results. Some of the students didn't want me to send their results so be it!
Let me give you 5 quick tips to help you score a 7 in writing.
Doing these things doesn't guarantee a 7, but they are some key points that hold people back.
1. Make your position clear.
A lot of people write essays and by the end of it, I'm not sure which side of the argument they are truly on. This is especially an issue for essays that require you to look at both sides of an issue.
2. Expand on your ideas.
A lot of people write their body paragraphs as lists. One idea, then a second idea, then a third idea. If you do this, you'll get a rubbish CC score. Always give an expansion sentence to any idea you present.
3. Edit for simple errors.
Don't expect to get 7 in grammar if your essay is full of article and plural mistakes. Also, don't expect 7 in LR if you have multiple spelling errors. If you don't edit your writing, these mistakes will definitely exist. I always reread everything I post because I almost always make a mistake the first time round.
4. Don't misread the question.
About 20% of essays I read from people in the 6 to 7 range actually misread the question. They answer something the question is not asking. Sometimes questions are not simply a matter of benefits vs drawbacks. They can be more specific than that, so make sure you don't default to pros vs cons essays if this isn't what is required.
5. Don't use fake research.
A popular website recommended this and now everybody started doing it. The idea is to persuade your reader. If you are using obviously false information, you aren't drawing from your own knowledge or experience. There are always better ways to support points than fake things.
